fw come back to stephen smith

STATEMENT FROM QUEENSBERRY PROMOTIONS RE STEPHEN SMITH

This statement is made following the statement released by boxer Stephen Smith yesterday, where he claims to have terminated his agreement with W. Promotions Ltd. W Promotions Ltd has received no notice of termination.

allegedly has received a letter in which Stephen Smith says that he wishes to terminate his Approved Boxer/Management Agreement. This letter was sent nearly seven weeks following his successful challenge for the British title in August and after it was announced he was to be part of an historic show where all three of the Smith brothers would defend their British Championships on the same night.

However, the letter does not disclose grounds to validly terminate the agreement and so Stephen Smith remains under contract to allegedly. Any party seeking his services must contact Mr. Warren in the first instance to comply with the rules of the BBBofC.

Mr. Warren will defend his rights as both the Manager and Promoter of Stephen Smith and a complaint has already been lodged at the British Boxing Board of Control and a letter sent to his solicitors. Other parties, who we are aware have induced Mr. Smith to breach his contract and in doing so have tortuously interfered with Mr Warren's rights, will also be the subject of action through the BBBofC and the Courts.

On a more personal note, It is extremely disappointing that Stephen Smith has chosen to implicate the late Dean Powell in his grounds for termination, yet in his press statement yesterday he specifically thanked Mr. Powell for the work done on his behalf throughout his career. It is our opinion that the timing of this and the manner in which it has been conducted is in poor taste.

I think fw can be vile. To insist smith was to say somthing derogatory about powell that is low I don't believe a gentleman like Stephen smith would do that.
Could get messy especially if Eddie hearns involved!!

I thought you couldn't be both the manager and promoter of a fighter?

The statement I read gave a special thanks to Dean Powell.

If the letter was 7 weeks ago that is before the sad passing of Dean Powell.

I'd be suprised if any of the smith brothers fight for warren again after bad mouthing stephen like that.

Frank's solicitor's going to be even busier than normal over these next few months.

As for that show in the echo in dec...well your a braver man than me if you buy tickets for that one now.
Got ''show postponed'' written all over it.

But Warren hasn't said anything of the sort in the above letter - he says that Stephen has implicated Dean Powell - not that he has said anything derogatory,

Parson Cross or The Law will know lots more but if a boxer is under contract there have to be grounds for having the contract rescinded, you can't just wake up and have a letter drafted and it all goes away.

You will probably find that he has signed agreements to run alongside the board boxer manager agreement form the board can only enforce or invalidate the boxer manager form anything else is irrelevant as far as the board is concerned and is a civil matter

Warren responds in Avery distasteful way as usual. Interestingly he states queensberry will be perusing legal action and smith made it clear it was warren promotions he was leaving

Queensbury - isn't that Andy Ayling ? The last cheap shot sounds like him..

So Smith ALLEGEDLY cited Dean Powell as a reason for wanting to terminate his contract, 7 weeks ago - long before Dean's tragic end, then quite understandably plays that down in his latest statement ( seems the decent thing to do. as Dean is not around to defend himself ) - but FW and or AA bring it up to discredit Smith now ???

That's a real low blow, and there will be fall out with the brothers over that you'd think.

The letter was sent nearly 7 weeks after the Buckland win; Warren has said nothing about Smith bad mouthing Mr Powell - it may be that Smith cannot face boxing for Warren without Powell; they'd be better just publishing the letter from Smith.

Just because Warren and Ayling are in a disgreement/legal tussle does not automatically mean they are in the wrong.

I'm wondering, not for the first time, what steps this promoter takes before announcing his latest big show.

Does he ask the fighters if they want to fight ? Apparently not.
Does he book opponents prior to launching the show ? Absolutely not.

Does he ask dangerous Russian contenders to sign rematch clauses ? Doesn't look like it.

I agree with Palooka. Why do so many automatically come out on the side of the boxer in cases like this? I'm not going to nail my colours to either mast but I will say that if you've signed a contract and the terms of that contract are not breached, you should stick to it.

What does this imply, if not that they see Smith's comments about Powell are in "poor taste"...why would they say that ?

If the company he signs a contract with is folded and no longer exists it's fairly self explanatory that he no longer has a valid contract

Like I said, I'm not nailing my colours to a mast as I don't know the full story.

Is Stephen no longer on the 7 Dec 13 card? Whatever the rights and wrongs, it would be a shame if he isn't.
