Was Ingo possibly referring to flies?

All kidding aside, at the moment he said it, it might have had a bit of merit. But it's shelf life was short.

I have been going through this thread very fast, but something is wrong here.

The first Johansson v Patterson fight in Yankee Stadium was in 1959 not 1960, but never mind the missprint.

"Note 3,000,000 Swedes were watching this event on TheTelevision Broadcast"
NO WAY! Unless you know 3 million swedes who went out of Europe to watch the fight somewhere.
The fight was NOT televised in Sweden - It was NOT on the radio in Sweden because of a total radio and TV ban on pro boxing in Sweden at that time.

Note; A 'Sell-Out', with approximately 500,000 Swede's asking for Tickets. Estimates were
that nearly 28,000 fans were turned away at the Gates.

Note; Aprroximately 50,000 fans surrounded the Nya Ullevi Stadium as the Fight Event
took place.

* June 26, 1960 vs. Floyd Patterson @ Yankee Stadium {New York}
* Attendance.... 36,000........{Capacity, 56,886}

Note; It was a Rain-drenched Night, and turn out was affected by the inclimate weather.

Note; 3,000,000 Swede's were watching this event on the Television Broadcast.

* June 20, 1960 vs. Floyd Patterson @ Polo Grounds {New York}

Note; Approximately 15,000 fans 'stormed the gates' and crashed through the minimal security
force without paying for Tickets.

Note; Estimated attendance in the Polo Grounds was calculated at 46,000 to 48,000.

* March 13, 1961 vs. Floyd Patterson @ The Convention Center {Miami Beach, Florida}

Woller, not to worry, entertaining fictional spins are often found within the confines of such threads recently.

It's strictly a "buyer beware" zone depending on who is authoring the contribution.

In my world....Ed Mahone was a great draw, and was the reason for the over 30,000,000 viewers who watched the Epic Mahone vs Klitscko affair. The single greatest battle in pugilistic history.

But don't go checking out the facts on me. I have my own exclusive sources. And I stand by this statement with my full integrity.

Here is how it could have happened.

3,000,000 swedes gathered round the big swedish jumbotron.....and watched the closed circuit version

OR

3,000,000 swedes watched the re run?

Hmm

Maybe a 6th sense? Sort of a mass "Swedish Vision"?

One of these probably explains it.

Something is wrong here.

It was an outdoor show on the Stadio Communale with a huge crowd.

Johansson says 35.000 attendance. Cavicchi was a hero in Italy at that time.

September 30, 1956

Palazetto dello Sport 'Sports Palace' - Bologna, Italy

Capacity; 8000..........Attendance; 8000 {Sell Out}

European Heavyweight Championship

25 year-old - Ingemar Johansson - 14-0-0 {7 KO's} takes on #10 World-Ranked
and European Heavyweight Champion - 'The Emilian Bull', Italian Franco Cavicchi.

The 28 year-old Italian has a record of 43-3-2 {34 KO's}, and who is being mentioned
as a Challenger for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Rough going for Ingemar {200 lbs.} early in the bout, as the Cavicchi {205 lbs.} is
too smart and too quick for the 'Big Swede', and builds up a solid points lead thru 5-Rounds.

Ingemar is left swinging at air, as Cavicchi is skillful in jabbing and counter-punching during
the Middle-Rounds, picking up Points.

After Round 10, Ingemar is hopelessly behind, and forgets about trying to jab his way in,
and starts swinging with heavy right-hands.

Well behind on points, INGO finally breaks through in Round 13, and topples the difficult
Italian and stops him by a TKO 13.

With the win and European Heavyweight Championship - Ingemar Johansson at 15-0-0 {8 KO's}
is now positioned as the #10 Heavyweight.
