Didn't know the British Bulldog was dead! (Davey Boy Smith) - I used to think he was the business as a kid...

I thought the Texas Tornado was dead too? (Kerry Von Erich?) from a drugs overdose.

Whilst we mock the wrestler to a certain extent their schedule is punishing...
They are fighting every other night and the body takes a battering as the bounce from pillar to post....

Due to their hectic and physically demanding schedule two things happen:

Firstly the need to look good all year round means they are on the juice pretty much all of the time, unlike other athletes who cycle on and off... the effects of steriod over use like this can be terribly damaging on the heart especially.

Secondly although the matches are worked and the winner decided before the bout begins... injuries still happen, but unlike other sports where you would take some time off... the wrestler just seem to take more and more painkillers and anti inflammetry (spelling) which also fornicate up the body when over used like this... they are also addictive

Eddie was living the dream, adored around the world, WWE champion... but sadly it came at a price.... RIP

I couldn’t tell you the name of a single one of them nowadays, but I was a big fan as a 10 year old…

Just guessing, but being that he has had problems with drug abuse, I would say that Guerrero's death will be related to pain killers. Wrestlers suffer many injuries and I'd say vicodin is as rampant in wrestling as it is in the NFL.

Nah, he's fine and there was news recently news of him and Vince McMahon working together again after their long running feud.
A lot of wrestlers dabble in drugs, the Hulkster was bang on the bugle years ago.

Yeah, he was in a car crash and had to get his foot amputated. A while afterwards when back at home he decided to kill himself. The Von Erich family have had a huge history of tragedies.

The documentary 'Beyond The Matt' gave a great insite into the life of a WWF wrestler. Jake The Snake was trying to explain to his daughter why he wasn't around much, saying Vince made us wrestle 6 days a week and on the 7th day we were travelling. His daughter stormed off and Jake disappeared, only to be tracked down later sucking on a crack pipe.

Disturbing stuff...

He had a stroke, but is fine and functional (and is a nice guy); however he can't wrestle anymore.

Wrestlers work 5 nights a week for a whole year with no holidays. It's a high pressure job at the top, if you get a long term injury you risk losing your job or someone else taking your spot, if you're not there then you're not making anyone any money and then they don't give a shit so to keep themselves in the game wrestlers turn to painkillers and steroids. The painkillers only mask the pain the wrestlers endure not heal them and because they are hurt they develop more injuries by over reliance on other body parts that aren't injures and eventually this combined with the steroids leads to heart attacks and general breaking down of the body with the punishing schedule.

A lot of wrestlers have a pain killer addiction. One doctor once described wrestling in terms of impact upon the body. Every time a wrestler takes a fall in the ring it is the equivelant of being rear ended at 20mph, that is a lot of whiplash and impact for one match and if you equate that with wrestling 5 times a week every week of the year for a number of years and it is not hard to see how this combined with the addictions and steroids lead to early deaths for a lot of wrestlers.

The likes of Hulk Hogan are around today because they were never that athletic and didn't take as much punishment because of that. Hogan also had a lot of pull and used his star power to reduce his amount of dates and wrestled a lot of bigger guys who weren't really in there for epic hour long iron man matches. Hard life being a wrestler.

Yeah there are, but would be interesting to see how many have died of possible steroid induced conditions (EG heart problems.)

No unfortunately, Haystacks died somewhere between 1997 and 1999. I was doing my A levels and was in the common room when we heard it on radio 1.

I have a weird memory when it comes to trivial things.
