Yea I get your point but burns might want to fight him after taking that beating off Beltran he might not want the rematchbilly nelson wrote:well he's beat and drew with Anthony so in my eyes he would deserve a shot first, but when Ricky fights again and perform to his ability, fighting a domestic level fighter is a step backwards.knockout5 wrote:Why should he have to fight Mitchell he's had his shot at burns, I think it's derry's turn he deserves it
I hope we get a rematch with Beltran then either Crawford or unification fight.

Billy if Ricky has to face Crawford next is that okay with Team Burns or is Crawford another opponent that you guys need a warm up for ?
Re: Me v Mitchell
If Crawford is the mandatory and you have to fight him before a certain date, will that opportunity be there though?!JimJim2009 wrote:Billy if Ricky has to face Crawford next is that okay with Team Burns or is Crawford another opponent that you guys need a warm up for ?

I was being slightly sarcastic. Ricky Burns is the only world champ I can think of who openly admits to needing "warm ups" before facing formidable opposition. I read that Bob Arum wants to stage Crawford vs Burns at MSG on 25.1.2014, and wondered how Billy felt about that.columbo wrote:If Crawford is the mandatory and you have to fight him before a certain date, will that opportunity be there though?!JimJim2009 wrote:Billy if Ricky has to face Crawford next is that okay with Team Burns or is Crawford another opponent that you guys need a warm up for ?
The correct answer is "yes, of course we'll fight Crawford next".
If the answer is "this is a tough one we would like Ricky to have a warm up" then I'd ask how many other world champs do that sort of thing....

Re: Me v Mitchell
It there was ever a time when a fighter would be entitled to a warm up then id say this will be it for Burns. That jaw of his will need a good test, maybe sparring should be a good enough test but who knows.
Some people jut pick at any opportunity. Would u see a warm up as being the same as a tune up? Because ive heard of plenty fighters have tune up fights, especially when performances have been below par.
Would people complain if Beltran was the 'Warm Up' fight?

Can't see Ricky having much choice than to fight Beltran or Crawford. Surely it will will be mandatory first or drop the title. I think Ricky has worked far too hard to drop the title? Unless the plan was to move up in weight which Billy has said won't be happening!! My guess is no one knows until he starts sparring and it will all be down to Ricky!! My personal opinion is a wee but longer break then in at light welter!!

Well that won't be happening Ricky's a LW and there's several options open to himdaviddee wrote:Can't see Ricky having much choice than to fight Beltran or Crawford. Re: Me v Mitchell
I appreciate that Billy. I wouldnt like to see Ricky "run" up to light welter to avoid these tough tests. You and Ricky strike me as being willing and wanting to fight the best guys out there. In all honesty, I cant speak on behalf of others but I personally have more respect for a fighter who is willing to go in with the best and loses vs one who has a padded record and is protected and people try and claim he's something that he's not. I dont mean Ricky by the way when I say that either.billy nelson wrote:Well that won't be happening Ricky's a LW and there's several options open to himdaviddee wrote:Can't see Ricky having much choice than to fight Beltran or Crawford. We have the funds and sponsors to promote this. We can happily put on financially this fight! Dont think Derry wants it TBH. Billy Nelson tips Richard to win and so do we. Derry will vacte the commonwealth in our opinion rather than face Richard.expe wrote:The Goodwin's aren't able to put on a show of that size right now because they don't have a TV deal and Commey has only fought here a couple of times so he isn't a big draw. If it happens it will probably end up on an undercard in the North West unless it goes to the Olympia.Jakemilo wrote:Doesn't Steve Goodwin promote him ?

Richard does have a promoter. Us!billy nelson wrote:Surely with Richard not having a promoter Wee Dave will bid for it or Eddie Hearn, either that or you give it up and he fights TBA and you move onwards.derry wrote:Yes he's next so his manager better get his hands in his pockets and make it happenAlba wrote:I hope you get the Mitchell fight , would love to see you beat him ... since your comeback you have won me over and its an honour to see you fight... one thing i do want to clarify, what is the situation with Richard Commey. Is he not your mandatory for your belt?
It would be some fight between the two of you Derry, Richard's strong and punches hard but what surprised me the most was hes very clever with it, very un African like, He would imo give any LW in the UK a hard shift.
Re: Me v Mitchell
I'm with Derry's team, take the time off, fully recover and look at the options in the new year.
I'd happily see him in against Mitchell next year or possibly a third fight with either Crolla or Rees.
But as Billy said earlier in the thread, a win against for any of these guys in these bouts shouldn't earn them a shot at a world title. Burn has to fight Beltran next then the fights everyone wants to see is either a mandatory against Crawford or a unification fight.
I'll be the first to criticize Ricky's team if they put him in with a Crolla, Mitchell, Matthews or Rees before the fights mentioned above.
If any of the names above can conclusively prove themselves to be no.1 in Britain, which not one of them can currently lay claim to, they would still need to step on to fight at a higher level before calling out world titlists!

Hes still got a belt at 135 and said he intends to defend it.
Re: Me v Mitchell
Broner wont fight at lightweight again.rio wrote:Hes still got a belt at 135 and said he intends to defend it.
after his lacklustre showing at welter, i'd consider dropping back down, perhaps to LWW. but i think broner will see the money to be made is at welter and will stay there.
