Tim Witherspoon On The 80's Lost Generation

I was reading an article a few months back and Tim was asked who he thought was the best fighter out of the lost generation. Tim picked Tony Tubbs and said that if he Tony's chin had been solid, he could have achieved a lot more.

Who do you think was the pick of the bunch?

Either Page or Spoon. Page was such a good boxer, and Spoon, though not as slick, could really dig. If those two had showed up in shape every time, either might have dominated.

its a good question.

Holmes beat many young bucks (witherspoon, williams, Bey etc) but unfortunately he never met some of the 'talents' due to a mixture of politics and nobody wanting to hold the WBA title for very long.

Dokes and Page were certainly the most exciting in their early years.

i asked tim the same thing last month at a show the stupid thing is we were both pissed and i can't remember what he said ,
i liked pinklon thomas or tim himself

I'm assuming Holmes doesn't count; he's not normally considered one of the lost generation. Thomas was my favourite, but perhaps that's because he tended to make the most of what he had, unlike Page and Tubbs in particular.

Surprised Tim said Tubbs had a bad chin - Spoon could certainly hit and he never hurt Tubbs once in 15 rds. Neither did Page or Bonecrusher.

Tubbs and Spoon were probably the best all-rounders. Dokes, Thomas, and Page had brilliant qualities. They were all varying degrees of mad and also hindered by Don King's megalomania.

Definitely Greg Page.Tony Tubbs is good, but a little bit overrated.
