I think we should wait for something official from either party before rolling out the gallows for a public hanging.

Notice there were no comments from Jamie in the press release. They wanted him to defend against Matty Hall. Again hardly going to get him exposure tucked away on Allegedly channel in a defence like that. Tough decisions have to be made in boxing sometimes

It must have been a tough decision for Dennis Hobson to fork out 10's of thousands to get Jamie a hometown World Title fight - as Doncaster had never had one before - knowing it would lose money. It must have been hard for him to take Jamie on when he wasn't training right and going on the piss every week.
If he'd done his job properly and promoted the fight so people bought tickets he wouldn't of lost money. Or if he'd got a tv deal to cover the costs of the fight

No just the only one that doesn't want to hang McDonnell for doing what's best for his career it seems. Hobson did a shocking job with him
That comment shows that on this particular subject you know jackshit.
No it shows you know jackshit. He got him a shot at home then sat back and couldn't be bothered to promote the show and sell tickets. He's been champ for what, 5 months now? What's he done in that time to get his name out there? You can't just say he's done a brilliant job by him because he got one thing right and ignore what he didn't do for him

No offence but if you hadnt noticed, outside of matchroom there is no one with a significantly powerful tv deal. When Hobson was dealing with him and getting him this world title shot, etc, no other promoter clearly gave a shit about Mcdonnell hence why some loyalty would of been nice.

Presuming he will announce with either Queensberry or Matchroom

Having gone to the majority of his title fights, they were under Maloney due to him having options on McDonnell after he beat Napa.

So yes, Hobson was his promoter but he fought on Maloney promotions, on SKY etc.

That appeared to end with the Zamora fight, where he fought on the UC of a Matchroom promotion.

Then it was back to Hobson for the slightly shambolic promotion at the Keepmoat.

It didn't have to be a significantly powerful tv deal it just had to be on any tv channel. He got him a fight at home then didn't promote it. Keepmoat was pretty empty that's inexcusable. It's like he got the fight then sat back and expected everything to just fall into place. He's done naff all in the 5 months he's had the belt either to promote him. That's why a fighter employs a promoter, you know to be promoted.

Spot on Palooka, Dennis pissed a load of money up the wall whilst McDonnell was on the piss.

Two sides to every story. Hobson shelled out ££££ to get him a shot at home, but the problem is nobody saw it. I don't think it's unreasonable for McDonnell to be asking questions. He's one of 4 world titleholders in the UK - his profile is miles below the other 3. How many people will have watched the Ceja fight? 10,000?

The timing is strange/poor given last week's announcement that DH had linked up with Queensbury/BN - but then Jamie has stated he knew nothing about that proposed deal. Either he's lying or it's poor communication from Hobson, as surely he would want/need to keep JM informed of any proposed agreement throughout every stage of negotiations.

I can't blame McDonnell for wanting to fight for Matchroom. It's by the far the best option for any UK boxer at the moment. I'm just surprised he couldn't do a deal and keep Dennis as his manager.

Not sure if this is the right thread, but Lovely Eddie has just tweeted that a new signing will be unveiled at tomorrow's Barker v Sturm press conference.

Quote from Dennis Hobson

http://www.livefight.com/news.php?news_ ... =2013&m=10

“I need to find out what the foundations are of this. I need to see if there’s any mischief being made although I’ve got an idea where it’s coming from.

“I don’t have anything else to say just now. I will be making a statement through myself or my legal representative that will make people sit up and take notice.”

I live in Doncaster jack and Jamie has been in the local papers every week, on the local news every other week; Doncaster is not a big fight town; the shows are generally at The Dome; there was no way on this earth that 15,000 people would turn out to see him. Hobson did what he could no doubt, Jamie has shown no loyalty whatsoever and saying that it's understandable is accepting an utterly cut throat method of doing business.

Hobson speaks out, sort of.

Does not seem an amicable situation it would sadly appear.

If he is asking the question ... the answer is that outside of their own areas (i.e. friends, family and extensions thereof) hardly anybody in this country cares about the famine weights. Whether they're on TV or not. People can come back at me with the one glaring princely exception. Even Duke McKenzie didn't get watched on TV and he was a brilliant boxer.

Off the top of my head I'm thinking McDonnell may be used as the occasional faux-headliner on Luke Campbell shows in Yorkshire.

He's a world champion not an area champion. He should just accept mediocrity because his promoter can't do his job properly?

P T Barnum couldn't have got him better than a world title fight in his hometown - undefeated Julio Ceja flew 5000 miles out of his comfort zone and Jamie went off the next day for a fortnights holiday - not bothering with any media or interviews whatsoever - not everything can be parked at the promoters door./

If Jamie gets pasted next time out how loyal do you imagine Eddie will be? How many of Jamies' comeback fights will be in Doncaster? Should Dennis bother at all with Gavin McDonnell?

Too true. Eddie gobshite Hearn let's another promoter do all the hard work, then steps in with his exclusive Sky TV deal ( big thanks to numbnuts Adam Smith ) and cherry picks yet another ready made world champion.

Well done Adam Smith, that exclusive TV deal for the Hearns family is really helping British boxing: creates a level playing field, encourages competition and ensures all the UK promoters get a fair crack of the whip.
