Re: Sugar Ray Leonard Versus
I think Sugar Ray beats everyone but this Julio Cesar Trinidad guy.
Must be an amazing hybrid clone of the original JC Chavez and Tito Trinidad.
Even Leonard would come out second best to that combination.

Leonard beats all of them, I think Mosley would give him the toughest time.
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard Versus
I think Mosely was a bit of a pretender, Oscar would probably be the biggest threat to Ray, but Leonard beats all of them except Oscar by stoppage.

Mosley was a tremendous athlete. He damn sure wouldn't get stopped.
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard Versus
There is only one natural welter on this list. There's only one welter better than Ray, and no lightweights (including Duran, when Ray doesn't fight his fight). Leonard Whittaker would be interesting though I can't see how Pea keeps up with the workrate.

DLH and SRL were supposed to fight but at that point SRL was way past it and we would have learned nothing from that fight other than SRL didn't know when to quit.
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard Versus
Leonard beats them all. I think he probably stops Pacquiao, and possibly Tito.
Possibly Chavez as well though that's a bit more of a stretch to me, though he'd certainly win it comfortably.
Oscar gives him the best fight, but still loses clearly.

DLH is clearly a loss on points. Prime DLH was never stopped except by BHop's vicious liver punch.gilgamesh wrote:Leonard beats them all. I think he probably stops Pacquiao, and possibly Tito.

I'm not sure but I think DLH was a candidate to fight Leonard at the time he got embarrassed by Camacho. DLH would have embarrased him too...He was shot...
Re: Sugar Ray Leonard Versus
I think the DLH and Mosley fights definitely go the distance. I'd pick Chavez to last the distance too, but it's not a sure thing.ThatOne wrote:DLH is clearly a loss on points. I'd pick Leonard to stop Pac and Tito.

Re: Sugar Ray Leonard Versus
He wouldn't stop Tito, that fight would end up dull as hell. Ray was too smart to engage with Trinidad when he could just use his legs.

Re: Sugar Ray Leonard Versus
If he could stop the even more dangerous Hearns, then Leonard could also put away Trinidad.

Re: Sugar Ray Leonard Versus
This is Ray Leonard we are talking about here.Sugar Shane would find out real quick who the real Sugar is.He is out of his element with Ray Leonard, who had tremendous killer instinct, and wouldn't have lost to Vernon Forrest.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Mosley was a tremendous athlete. I didn't say he couldn't, I said he wouldn't. He had no choice against Hearns because Tommy was the superior boxer. Against Trinidad Ray wouldn't have to engage. Stopping Tito would mean taking a good bit of unnecessary punishment. He wouldn't do that.SenorPipino wrote:If he could stop the even more dangerous Hearns, then Leonard could also put away Trinidad.

Shane's chin is above reproach. I wouldn't pick anyone to stop him. Ray would be more likely to stop Oscar.

Wouldn't, shouldn't, couldn't.
It boils down to Ray having far too much speed for Trinidad (both foot and hand).
Sure, he'd be cautious but eventually he would catch Tito with something big and go for the kill.
Ray had problems with Hearns height, reach, speed and power. But when he found the openings he quickly took it to Tommy. He didn't fear Hearns but he respected him.
He would respect Tito's power too, but when the opportunity arose, he would have taken it to Trinidad too.
And with Leonard's advantages in all areas with the possible exception of power (and Ray was certainly no slouch when it came to power) he would have stopped the Puerto Rican.
Leonard was no ODLH.

Re: Sugar Ray Leonard Versus
He'd box circles around him, it just would go the distance. Leonard wasn't a great defensive fighter, but he had excellent legs and he wasn't shy about using them. Scared? LOL, there is a difference between scared and smart.SenorPipino wrote:SaadOffTheDeck wrote:I didn't say he couldn't, I said he wouldn't. Those guys are not in the great Sugar Ray Leonard's class.
