Toney fight off in view of a possible Rahman fight in Feb

Post by dve3333 »

fightnews.com
Heavyweight contender James Toney, has scrapped his upcoming bout with Rob Calloway on December 15. According to his promoter Dan Goosen, the fight was canceled in favor of the prospect of facing newly crowned WBC heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman, 41-5-1, 33 KOs, sometime in early 2006. Rahman's future will be decided by the WBC as they decide who he shall face next. Oleg Maskaev, who recently won the number one position in the WBC, Toney, and Wladimir Klitschko are candidates for Rahman's first defense.

Glad it's scrapped, Calloway shouldn't have been in the ring with Toney in the first place.

Glad this fight is off, Toney really needs to be fighting the top guys and nobody else. He's hardly setting the world alight with fights against the likes of Booker, Guinn and now a proposed Calloway fight.

i'd favour toney over rahman.

rahman has always been a bit one dimensional. toney to win on points with his superior skills and handspeed. :box:

hopefully wladimir klitschko can win either the wbo or ibf belt and then we can c some good unification match ups. :TU:

I think we can all agree that this fight falling through is no loss. I like Toney's chances against Rahman as well.

Will King want this fight so soon though? If (and I suspect he will) Toney wins, that means his unification tournament will be on hold - because Toney cannot fight for the WBA for another two years.

in some ways that could be an incentive for letting rahman fight toney. he knows toney can't get his clutches on the wba belt and it gives king a claim to a title belt.

King could just pull strings and use his tatcis to overule that rule someway or another. :TU:

Or overule it someway for him to fight for the WBA.

He'll kill Rahman though. :TU:

True, although I did like a post from Zhuge, who displayed masterful use of HTML tags:

It's obvious. Reports are Toney never wanted to fight Calloway in the first place; Calloway's smaller size and movement/boxing abilities would've made for a more difficult fight than Toney wanted at this stage. So, now he's taking the easy way out by looking for Rahman.

LOL

Talk about nuthugging. Is anyone sure this isn't just Rob posting here. There seems to be enough of his handlers around for him to know of this forum.
