Matt Wells

Post by Malvolio »

I was interested to find a profile and a picture of Matt Wells, as he coached me when I was a boy ( I'm now 74) and I remember him well. After he retired from the ring he was employed as a boxing coach at Dulwich College Preparatory School.

What an amazing record...

He beat Freddie Welsh, Philly Pal Moore, Abe Attell, Charley White...

Went the distance with Packy McFarland, Owen Moran, Johnny Dundee....and went 12 rounds with Ted Kid Lewis.

Must have been a great coach.

What an honour to be coached by someone of the caliber of Matt Wells.

There's a fuller fight record for him here: http://www.boxinghistory.org.uk/records ... ambeth.pdf

He was also a leading referee: http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_ ... at=referee

Malvolio, would love to hear any reminiscences you could share about being trained by Matt Wells.
