where do you rank roy jones jr of all time?
Re: where do you rank roy jones jr of all time?
What does HOF have to do with that, or a ranking in the weakest of all traditional divisions?

You know damn well that it doesn't fit Ali at all. He fought great competition and you know it all.Senya13 wrote:You just wrote a post that fits Muhammad Ali perfectly, so I wondered why you brought him up in this thread.

There was a "you were just going by who beat (and when he beat him)" part, do you remember? Also, it should be noted that he fought "great heavyweight competition", there's a big difference. I mentioned it on another forum, even men like George McFadden and Benny Yanger had better resumes than Muhammad Ali, and they were not all-time greats.

I think often that you say things that you don't believe. I don't know if you are trying to be funny or just trying to get a rise out of people. Either way, I'm not interested in playing your silly game.

I'm just wondering whether people actually believe all the hype about old-timers (such as has been and continues to be generated about Ali and his opponents), or whether they are trying to be funny. Because it should be obvious to any objective person that Benny Yanger and George McFadden beat or drew with better opponents than Ali, Louis, etc.

Jones' standing will be debated for years to come. I've never seen a fighter quite like him where speed and reflexes are concerned and what he achieved with those traits alone. The things he could do inside the ring were truly phenomenal. Unfortunately he should have retired after beating Ruiz but since he didn't and has lost frequently since, his historical standing will suffer

It will improve eventually, similar to how Ray Robinson or Ezzard Charles or Willie Pep looking like third-raters against nonentities didn't leave a long-lasting impression.bollox wrote:Unfortunately he should have retired after beating Ruiz but since he didn't and has lost frequently since, his historical standing will suffer
