Ringside in Vegas
Ringside in Vegas
I think it was a new low.
Thrown together programme to hide a jolly boy's outing.
Mailinaggi did his best but even his wobbling head and uncomfortable staring down the lens when he stopped
talking with a camp puppy expression was getting weird.
The Donnaire feature a wasted opportunity as was Johnny meets Floyd snr because no one checked if money
was in town.
I like Johnny but he was terrible last night Bob Mee history of Vegas wank.
Adam Smith "what really got me hooked on boxing was when the fan man flew in" WTF
A fornicating abortion start to finish .

Re: Ringside in Vegas
The 15 seconds before the opening credits rolled was awful scripted banter.
And that is from a fan of neslon and smith

Wonder how much the total expenses were to fly them all out there? Bet Smith didn't fly in economy class either.TJ77 wrote:Thrown together programme to hide a jolly boy's outing.
Shame the majority of the non-star fighters on Sky shows are struggling to make a living whilst money from the Sky Budget is p*ssed up the wall elsewhere.
Re: Ringside in Vegas
Gotta agree. I thought it was going to be a great show last night in Vegas and it was terrible.
I'd rather watch Kugan Cassius out there chatting to Eddie Hearn in a Jacuzzi

moan when sky don't show interational fights
moan when they pick up one of the fights of the year and dare to fly out to cover it. they really can't win
thought wayne mccullogh was good value

Don't tell porkie pies, Wayne Mccullogh was not good whiteboy. Jonny nelson trying to play patta cake with Floyd Snr, 2 geeks in the dessert reminiscing about past fighters and why Vegas is the place to be, Malinaggi trying to make comments on British fighters he hadn't got a clue about or ever seen. Through the key hole with Donaire. Tim Bradley doing a Mayweather impression after a commercial break. Come on Sky, the money you spent on the hotel room alone would have funded 3 decent UK ringsides.

But the content and presentation was crap and it needed have been.
Planning ahead using Mallinaggi to better effect ie talking to other fighter's gaining a real insight.
I learnt nothing other than Donnaire is a weird kid 50+baby scans taped to a door.
And Bob Mee's teeth look worse outdoors.

Re: Ringside in Vegas
Sounds abysmal. I can't watch ringside any more, just toooo painful. Instead of using the budget to buy a big fight, Smith chooses to spend sky boxing fan's money to go to LA with Johnny instead.
Sky need to GET RID OF ADAM SMITH.
The man is a disaster, and his comment about fan man show you just how gormless the bloke is.

Put Ed Robinson in charge instead
Re: Ringside in Vegas
I really enjoy the visit to Nonito's house.
Andy Scott is a pleasant lad and you could see everyone was at ease. He's done really well since doing little vids on Rendall for FM promotions back in the day.

Re: Ringside in Vegas
They even let an arsehole like me into the mayweather gym, johnny nelson was only allowed in the car park :)
Re: Ringside in Vegas
Enjoyed the Donaire though the keyhole stuff. Even enjoyed the pattercake with mayweather senior- interesting to see how fast him/ Nelson are.
mallignagi came across a bit weird. Would have liked to see mCulloch through the keyhole. I mean what is life really like living in Vegas for 10 years?
All the rest was crap.

Re: Ringside in Vegas
Sky produce about three different magazine shows and fly over a crew of 6 or 7 for a week to cover a Vegas card that features no British fighter and the main event will be on at 4-5am. But they only show 20 UK shows per year. Does that sound like a good ratio of presentation and boxing coverage (fights)?
They need to cut down all of the expensive presentational guff, which to be honest has got boring and hyping up prospects who are topping bills on their debuts by stopping push overs it is not exactly catering to the boxing fan.
The Vegas Ringside was a total jolly. They didnt even make it into the Mayweather gym let alone get Floyd on camera and this rubbish in the car park with Floyd Sr WTF.
The Elvis dude in the opening sketch was excruciatingly bad, seriously WTF
A series of clips standing outside a few of the big Vegas hotels with "ohhh there great nights here blah blah...remember fan man lol" WTF
Thank God allegedly is still going strong, it would be total disaster if Sky were the only TV outlet and one monopoly promoter, it is not healthy for the sport.

Re: Ringside in Vegas
Ringside appeals to the casual fan, it has to, although I'd rather they made it for nerds like us it just wouldn't be worth their while.
Therefore, we are left with an over dramatic, dumbed down show that tries too hard.
Andy Scott has a likeable charm and is becoming a very good reporter but the Donaire thing was a little strange. The ultrasound pictures on the back of the bedroom door, the piano playing and the pseudo jostling by the pool was all a bit camp.
Paulie Malignaggi just irritates me. He makes some good points though. Nelson and Floyd Sr was awkward.
All in all it was one of those shows that didn't quite work but I appreciate the sentiment, back to normal next week hopefully.
I shouldn't be overly critical because a) it's good they are at least trying new things and b) Sky are showing a commitment to the sport.
The American networks just seem to do these type of things better generally.

Re: Ringside in Vegas
I enjoyed it. Expected them to bang on about Joshua debut for about 15 minutes, malinaggi was great on it and they did a nice job in how much coverage they allocated to JMM-Bradley. Enjoyed the Donaire feature as well. It was a nice break from the usual and it was well presented IMO
