Heavyweight title fights that never came off
had these fights took place who would have won
rocky marciano vs nino valdez
jack dempsey vs harry wills
jack johnson vs joe jeanette(when he was champ)
floyd patterson vs cleveland williams
my predictions
marciano KO 7 valdez- valdez style would have been made for marciano. rocky would have a lot easier time vs the bigger target slower slugger, than cagey faast slick master boxers charles, walcott, lastarza.
dempsey KO 4 wills- dempsey at his best against bigger men. wills chin could be dented.
johnson 15 unanimous jeanette
patterson 15 unanimous williams- i think patterson had the recup powers to get off the canvas if knocked down and trouble williams with his boxing skills like machen and terrell did. but williams could finish him early, especiaally a young patterson

On the orginal bouts I'd take
Marciano by KO
Dempsey Wills is hard to say, as you mention Dempsey could deal with larger men but Wills knew how to use his size advatage rather than just lumbering in and presenting a big target.
johnson pts
Patterson close decision
Ones I'd like to throw in the mix
Foreman vs Holmes (late 70s)
Gene Tunney vs George Godfrey

Tyson TKO3 Bowe. Bowe just got hit too much, that is bad against Tyson.
Holmes TKO10 (late 70's)Foreman. Prime Holmes UD over Prime Foreman.
Just for the hell of it, Vitali KO3 Rahman, if it did happen!
marciano vs valdez
dempsey vs wills
johnson vs jeanette(rematch during title reign)

dempsey vs. wills.... that would have been something.. its a shame it never happend, as i no they came close enough that they printed tickets and were about to have the fight take place, when dempsey backed out. i would venture to guess that dempsey would have probly won this fight. Wills was a great fighter and all but dempsey was beyond any fighter he ever met. And that left hook...i think that catches him i nthe mid rounds. 7-9 round fight with Dempsey swarming wills until he gives in nd loses by TKO

That's a good one. I think Peter Jackson was more skilled than Sullivan, but Sullivan had that stamina to last and last. The Jackson-Corbett fight was called a draw because the fighters were spent and going through the motions. The fighters did little fighting over the last hour or more. Sullivan went 75 rounds drinking brandy along the way to beat Kilrain. Plus, all the conditions and rules would have been stacked against Jackson even if he got a shot against the popular Sullivan.Randineous wrote:What about John L. Sullivan vs. Peter Jackson, which personally I think is one of the great missing pages from Heavyweight history?
I think Sullivan would have won in controversial fashion if they did meet. In a fair fight, I think Peter Jackson wins.
