Edit: I don't mean if you come out to your friends and family, I mean if you make a big song and dance about it and shout it from the roof tops.

People always try and argue that if an athlete is gay then they should keep it to themselves. That it has nothing to do with sports. That their personal life should be private. It's a bullshit double standard. We don't expect straight athletes to keep their personal life private. I don't see people getting all indignant when Miguel Cotto's family or Floyd Mayweather's girlfriend are featured on 24/7, and there is no outcry when people read stories about Tom Brady and the supermodel, and I know that no one goes apoplectic with rage when David Beckham mentions his wife and kids.

I've probably seen hundreds of different people make slurs about Cruz's sexuality on various websites since he came out. Someone suggested that being gay is in style, or something similar to that, but I doubt any straight person would be the target of such vitriol due to their sexual orientation.
