Only 4 of 88 Press Members scored for Marquez

Post by fightscorecollector »

88 scores taken from the boxing press and only 4 had Marquez winning the fight. One of the scores i feel was shocking.

I had it 115-113 Bradley but felt he clearly won.

All scores on.... http://www.boxingnewsonline.net/latest/ ... ng-writers

Comments Welcome

ps; i know it says 78 scores on page but waiting for web editor to change this.

A couple of guys had it 118-110 Bradley which is equally shocking!

The consensus seems to be a close but clear Bradley win, but with a few having a draw and Marquez winning, there can't be too many complaints with a split decision. Happy the judges got it right.

The American gu who scored 116-112 JMM was the one that shocked me.

Yes that was a shocker also! But I think having Bradley 10-2 up is a little bit of a stretch. I thought 116-112 or 115-113 Bradley were both excellent cards. Didn't see Marquez winning it but was perhaps influenced by Sky's commentators/pundits who all thought TB won clearly.

Apart from the the one judge and Marquez' team, I haven't seen anyone else that thinks Marquez won. I wonder if those 4 press guys were Mexicans?!

I had it close for Bradley but was shocked at the commentary team. They talked it up as a landslide and I couldn't really tie that in with what I was seeing. I think Jim Watt's scorecard was 116-113...I think I pretty much scored it as Jim except I thought round 1 was a clear Marquez round...which puts my score at 115-114...nothing like what was being commented on.

I've said this before - they give a narrow round one way or the other and then talk for the rest of the fight as though that is an established and incontrovertible fact when it is actually just the stated opinion of an ageing Jock with a dubious record scoring fights. I had Bradley by two or three rods but thought there were a few in there that were very close that American judges especially might have given JMM because he was coming forward, whereas TB was sort of holding it at range.

Round 9.... 9-10 Bradley
Round 10.. 9-10 Bradley
Round 11.. 10-9 Marquez
Round 12.. 10-9 Marquez

whoever scored it for marquez needs to explain why they scored it for him because i just cant see how anyone could of scored it for him, unless they felt sorry for him.

Because he brought the action and landed heavier punches. Bradley is fast, very fast, faster than i thought, but he was getting credit (sick amounts of credit from SKY), for peppering Marquez with jabs, with alot of them hitting gloves.

I guess most people scoring for Bradley when Marquez clearly won is reflective of modern boxing where we seem to champion potshotting runners only interested in a final bell and compubox numbers.

Marquez looked to struggle every round to land, Bradley decided when to engage, when to back off, when to circle and when to throw; whenever Marquez landed Bradley hit right back. Bradley seemed to enjoy himself and Marquez seemed frustrated and befuddled; if fact he looked to not belong at the weight, the Manny knockout flattered him, his best is behind him; Bradley won by 4 rounds and he will go from strength to strength.

Marquez gesturing to Bradley in the - 11th or 12 round was it- made me think he was quite clearly frustrated, in that it was behaviour so unusual for him.

Yes, he is normally content to do his thing and maintains a good poker face; Bradley was both confusing him and hitting him hard enough that he was wary of forcing too much. That was the worst I've seen Marquez box and the best I've seen from Bradley.

:o so u must be one of the very few who thought bradley beat pacman, when i watch a boxing match i score for for who has landed the most shots not who threw the heavier shots because a fighter could land 50 shots but his apponent lands 5 shots in that round which are quite heavy but not heavy enough to daze or wobble,to me the guy who lands 50 shots wins the rounds wether there pepper shots 50 jabs or whatever he won the round, this is what happened in the bradley fight and whatever marquez did bradley matched

He brought the action? It sounds like you're scoring partially based on who you thought provided the most entertainment.

You say Marquez landed heavier, but I never noticed Bradley even remotely bothered by his punches, while Marquez was rocked in the 10th and 12th. In my view, Bradley threw more, landed more, and landed the best shots, both within most rounds and overall.

No i had Pacquiao 11-1, but see no relevance in that.

"Final CompuBox stats had Bradley outlanding Marquez 168-153, and throwing 562 punches (30%) to Marquez's 455 (34%). Bradley outjabbed Marquez 82-38, while Marquez landed more power shots, 115-86."

Bradley landed 15 punches more of the course of 12 rounds, and also missed more with his lower connect %. When you consider jabs, Bradley landed 44 more than Marquez. Now let's just remove jabs from the punchstats and you have; 86 bradley, 115 Marquez.

Marquez got the better of the meaningful exchanges. When they faught in range, he landed cleaner heavier shots because his timing is better and that is 'Marquez' territory. That's why he should have won the fight, but it seems many fans value 1 man circling the other and patting a nothing jab at him over aggression and coming out on top in meaningful exchanges of power punches. Bradley's infighting is shocking, he shuts his eyes and leaves his chin floating mid-air, exactly why he lost to Provodnikov. Timothy Bradley is reflective of what's wrong with modern boxing, the man has lost his last 3 fights. Total con job.
