Thomas A Becket and The Royal Oak
Thomas A Becket and The Royal Oak
Has anyone got any old photos of those two gyms when they were up and running with fighters to post up? Boxing gym on top of a pub is a great idea. Can't believe it hasn't been copied!

look above at the tools. Select the one that says "Img".....put your cursor in the middle of the brackets and press space bar a few times, til it makes a space, copy and paste you image into there and then press submit. That should do the trick...

Bobby Neill is the man credited with relaxing Minter's style and developing him into a smooth southpaw fighting machine.

Local paper/council had a vote by the public to choose what blue plaques they wanted put up for buildings/people/historical events etc. One of those that won was to put one up outside the Thomas A Becket as Henry Cooper used to train there.

They used to keep a monkey on the premises. A friend of mine Derry Trainor and a pal went down to London at the start of his pro career and were allowed to spend a night upstairs. Yes, the monkey was released without them having any prior knowledge. I don't think his mate ever recovered from the shock!
