Re: Off Topic ish Haye Dinner Shows
To be fair, probably. Tyson not promised a lot without delivering... yet, so the fans could turn. And a lot of people were behind Haye for a long time. With Tyson he's more like marmite, some think he's hilarious and back him, some just want to see him smashedILikeBeer wrote:Why is it that Tyson Fury gets a lot of credit on this site for being an excellent self-promoter for talking poo on twitter? When he goes off on one on Channel 5 and shows us the extent of his hilarious wit by claiming that Price and Bellew are gay lovers, people on here are acting like he is funny, and claiming; "Hey, it sells fights."
But when Haye does it, he's a bell-end?
Don't get me wrong, he's annoyed me as much as anybody since he's come up to heavyweight, but he sells fights. Many people legitimately thought Haye vs Audley was going to be a good fight. Think about it for a minute. Audley debuted in 2001. For nine years, the press slated him. Said he was rubbish, should retire and had nothing to offer the pro-game. The fans were callin him Ordinary Harrison, Fraudley and A-Farce. For nine years. And yet, Haye got a lot of people believing it was a 50-50 fight, worth paying money for.
He's a lot better a sales person of fights than Fury is, who just likes to go off on twitter rants. And yet, Fury gets held up on this site like some amazing sales person, and Haye gets treated like a jerk.
Why is that? Is it just because people have fallen for Haye's hype before, and become bitter?
I wanted pay £100 to hear either talk at dinner! I think Fury would be a lot more entertaining

You could claim that Fury has said he'd fight Price, and hadn't. But I know what you're getting at.danconnollyeire wrote:To be fair, probably. Haye's chat, especially since coming up to heavyweight has been annoying. I can see why people have been turned off. But I've always felt, as annoying as he acted, he was doing it with promotion in mind. With Tyson Fury, it just feels like it's him being a cretin.

Yeah can't say I'd be lining his pockets.
The one time I met Haye, was when I was an amateur boxing journalist, think I was writing for some website or other, I asked him if I could get in touch with him for an interview via email when he was less busy, he looked at me like I was a piece of dog turd, then smirked, and gave me a fake email address!

Maybe many people did, I wasn't one of them, it was a farce, and always was going to be. All of Haye's pre-fight verbiage before the Wlad fight, and then his negative performance for which he was handsomely paid off of the back of the PPV's that people paid for, have left a very bitter taste in many people's mouths when his name is mentioned. He doesn't do himself any favours with his swaggering smirking persona either - he just comes off as not being very likable, and massively into himself, without really producing the goods to allow him to get away with it. If he'd gone shit or bust with Wlad, and got his ass whupped, he'd have gotten props for giving it a go, the British love a plucky loser, he chose not to go for broke, and will have to live with the brickbats as a result. If you're going to chat shite about decapitating your opponent before the fight, then prepare to live with the fans dissapointment when you turn in a safety first performance, where it appears you are more willing to lose and save yourself from a beating than try and win the biggest prize in sport. That's just how it is. I'm sure Haye's millions help him wipe back the tears of sadness at this.

Re: Off Topic ish Haye Dinner Shows
Bloody hell, wish I'd never mentioned it.
Haye has no control of the price of attending, that's down to whoever is bringing the event.
A bit like Sky Sports has an on/off button, you don't have to attend.
There are countless events like this going on every week, many are with boxers.
There's a dinner coming up with Mercer and Moorer for instance - now who would know anything about those guys if you weren't into boxing.
Marvin Hagler can be an absolute diva on these events but people pay to see him.
Holyfield has done a recent tour and at one event refused to eat food in the same room as the people paying to see him, and did not sign one autograph.
If you're not interested don't read the thread don't attend - the thread the subject was clear.
No point turning it into a character assassination.

How do you know Haye isn't running the event himself, after all, he has his own promotional company?Parson Cross wrote:Bloody hell, wish I'd never mentioned it.

I think people here are entitled to voice their opinion - if you find it distasteful, then I would follow your own advice, and go elsewhere.

Re: Off Topic ish Haye Dinner Shows
For the record, I rated Haye at cruiser, watched all his fights, and attended quite a few too, both as a journo, and as a paying punter - I was him beat Mormeck in Paris in front of a partisan and very menacing crowd, I might add - he showed real balls to get off the deck and batter Mormeck.
I also didn't find his 'gang rape' comment particularly bothersome either - probably not very wise of him, but the comment was both an excellent analogy, and eerily prophetic, as the spectacle of watching a hapless and fearstruck Harrison being abused so, was about as edifying as viewing a gang rape.

James,
What gives you the right to tell me to leave the forum - Jesus Christ.
Talk about bull in a china shop.
The reason I know is by reading the advert which shows the name of the Company brining the event and the fact that I happen to know them - is that ok ?
This started by me making people aware he was up here. That was it. No agenda, nothing. You never know some boxing fans might want to attend.

Tell you what does have a massive bearing and that's the profit margin the organiser want to achieve.

Especially when they don't like someone. Haye is probably the last boxer on earth I'd pay to be in the company of.

You were the one who suggested 'If you're not interested, don't read the thread and don't attend'......so what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, if you don't want people to comment on things you post, don't post them up, or once you see replies you don't like, don't contribute to the thread, you can't have it both ways mate.Parson Cross wrote:James,
