Re: jamie Mcdonnell strippedof title
A little confused
Re: jamie Mcdonnell strippedof title
Sounds like toys out the pram from Hobson team to me, could they somehow influence the IBF to do this by making complaints to them about Jamie leaving them and talking to other promoters before anything has been agreed? They all pisss in the same pot I'm sure, look at the close relationship Warren clearly has with the WBO for examples of promoters and belt organisations being in bed with each other.
Re: jamie Mcdonnell strippedof title
Would be strange that hobson has that power and don king didnt after tyson-douglasTheCobra wrote:Sounds like toys out the pram from Hobson team to me, could they somehow influence the IBF to do this by making complaints to them about Jamie leaving them and talking to other promoters before anything has been agreed? Re: jamie Mcdonnell strippedof title
First off I'm shocked with this stripping, not that it actually happened but normally there rumours and stories that go around before it actually comes to pass.
Secondly, after reading that article, they did not actually give a specific reason for the stripping to happen... You would think that they would go public with a reason for doing such a drastic measure.
I really hope that there isn't corruption behind this with money changing hands for fighters to be part of the vacant title fight.
Historically, the IBF has always favoured American fighters - in my opinion anyway.

Just a theory, Hobson seems like a decent enough bloke so can't see it now I think about it, but you never know in this game!Adamj1987 wrote:Would be strange that hobson has that power and don king didnt after tyson-douglasTheCobra wrote:Sounds like toys out the pram from Hobson team to me, could they somehow influence the IBF to do this by making complaints to them about Jamie leaving them and talking to other promoters before anything has been agreed? Re: jamie Mcdonnell strippedof title
Sure sounds like the IBF acted in the best interests of the promoter doesn't it?

From everything hobson has done for jaime it seemed shit for jaime to upsticks and leaveCap wrote:Sure sounds like the IBF acted in the best interests of the promoter doesn't it?

Hobson is a sneaky f*cker when things don't go his own way! He tried to set Jamie up with Kevin Sanders behind Stefy and Dave's back because he didn't get on with them, the first they knew about about being replaced was on this site!

Re: jamie Mcdonnell strippedof title
On a sidenote how long until Mayweather has to make a mandatory defence of his WBC Welterweight title he defends once every 2 years?
Re: jamie Mcdonnell strippedof title
Good question. And as of today, Mayweather is currently the WBC Light Middleweight Champion as well.handsofstone wrote:On a sidenote how long until Mayweather has to make a mandatory defence of his WBC Welterweight title he defends once every 2 years?
And I am pretty sure that you are not allowed to hold titles in different weight classes...
And last year Floyd became the WBA Light Middleweight Champion when he beat Cotto but was still in posession of hsi WBC Welterweight title... Then he dropped back down a weight to defend it against Robert Guerrero.
No consistency in the rulings - yet lower profile fighters like McDonnell are getting fucked... It just isn't right.
Re: jamie Mcdonnell strippedof title
First time I have ever read anything like that. Seems like one law for one etc..

That's boxing mate. When was the last time Vitali defended his belt?!Crease wrote:Good question. With respect mate, that is no excuse for these occurances and it just goes to show how much boxing is in need of some sort of structuring... Particularly at the top level with the four World Titles.columbo wrote:That's boxing mate.

You have touched upon something else there mate. That needs looked at too. Personally I would sanction the Haye vs Fury fight for the vacant WBC Title - seeing as both fighters are ranked in the top five of the division. I don't think they could go too far wrong with that.

Re: jamie Mcdonnell strippedof title
Who do you propose to do the looking? The sanctioning bodies (quite legitimately) make their own rules and exceptions thereof.Crease wrote:That needs looked at too.
Re: jamie Mcdonnell strippedof title
Hobson already posted a snotty remark about the situation. Wouldn't be suprised if he's tried to influence this. If he'd done his job properly he'd of arranged the mandatory in time and Jamie wouldn't of left him
Re: jamie Mcdonnell strippedof title
For a long time now I have been a believer that there should be some sort of Commission that regulates the Big Four boxing bodies - something that keeps them all in-line with a standard set of rules which they must all follow.Aden wrote:Who do you propose to do the looking? I know that this is extremely unlikely and the odds are that this will never happen... But without it, all the sweet-talking and ass-kissing that goes on behind closed door will continue. It's easy to see that different pormoters have special relationships with one of the big four.

These sort of statements make me laugh, I'm sure Jamie did more for Hobson than the other way round. After all it wasn't the promoter in the ring for the British, Euro & World titles, also its business Hobson did it for money not out of the goodness of his heart, his influence/reaction to him losing the title is proof of that!
I think the promoter should maybe consider why he's leaving him, he's had 1 fight in the last year and only 4 in the last 2 years and I'm sure at bantamweight he isn't earning enough to be able to cope with the lack of fights. Boxing is a short career and you've got to make the money while you can and while your stocks high.
Re: jamie Mcdonnell strippedof title
Yes because jaime is a massive draw and would of filled the stadium as full as it was on his own.Champfan10 wrote:Adamj1987 wrote:From everything hobson has done for jaime it seemed poo for jaime to upsticks and leaveCap wrote:Sure sounds like the IBF acted in the best interests of the promoter doesn't it?

Yes jaime did more i mean its not like hobson eve promoted or lobbied for his fighters and beome world champs before.
Boxers with all the tallent in the world get nowhere without the promoter nd manger putting in work. Hobson worked his ass off for jaimes title fight to make it viable.
I hope jaime gets his title back as he shouldnt be stripped for out he kng poletics.
Re: jamie Mcdonnell strippedof title
I disagree. If a boxer is good enough he will always rise to the top - it's just that Promoters can get their charges more money and more recognition as well as making arrangements wih the world boxing bodies.Adamj1987 wrote:Boxers with all the tallent in the world get nowhere without the promoter nd manger putting in work.
Totally agree with that statement. I have tons of respect for Jamie McDonnell because he has done everything right in his career - being British, Commonwelath and European Champion... I believe that more boxers should try and follow his example.Adamj1987 wrote:I hope jaime gets his title back as he shouldnt be stripped for out he kng poletics.
And he deserves his place as IBF World Champion.
