If Eddie Hearn and his team of experts are involved at some level, everything will turn out okay; surely they are far too professioanl to ruin a young lad's career?

Yeah, Aden he could sell his hair to the sick and make them well again. If they were so professional then maybe they would persuade a boxer to make a complaint to the BBBoC with evidence of a legitimate grievance before they decide to elope to Brentwood together; maybe then a Tort lawyer would have a decent go at extracting them from a binding contract.

Thanks for that :TU: so Rumpole says that a boxer can just up sticks and go wherever with whoever; does the contract give any security whatsover to the manager/promoter? Generally I've sided with a fighter when they agitate for a move but with McDonnell and Hobson I just feel that Hobson has been crapped on.

It boxer has no ground he have to pay old promoter his fee until old contract up does not mean he has to fight for old promoter again! Always 2 side to story!

There are 2 sides to a story but that doesn't mean that there is always right and wrong split 50/50. I imagine that it'll take some doing for Hobson to ever recoup the outlay for the Keepmoat World Title fight and expenses but as long as someones happy!

I don't mind Hobson, but was it fair when he outbid other promoters to sign Tony Jeffries, only to rip up his contract a few months later leaving him high and dry when he (Hobson) couldn't deliver what he promised?

Left Jeffries shuffling around for a promoter when all his co-Olympians had signed their deals. I remember Fwank saying that he'd still make an offer for Tony, but that it would much less than what was previously on the table because all the pot of money had been spent on some of Tony’s former colleagues.

Works both ways. I don't like the acrimonious nature of it, but let’s not pretend its only boxers who screw people. Hobson went down in my estimation for that.

Dennis is nothing to do with gavin stefy manages gavin
Steffy says Gavin won't be ready to fight Galahad on Nov 30th yet he's down to box TBA in Donny 6 days later.

Wrong information I had a phone call regarding the fight with Gavin v Barry at the time Gavin was on holiday and I went to Vegas day before he was back which left 6 weeks to the date offered iv worked hard to get Gavin in MADATORY position so why would I take a fight in 6 weeks notice who gets ready for a 12 rounds British title fight in 6 week when he's mandatory?? Iv now got Gavin a tv deal he is not boxing on my show in December I put the list on before he beat Josh Wale and if he does fight on my bill it will only be a tick over 6 rounder at a few weight higher.. We want the fight why would I get him to mandatory if we didn't want it. Too many boxing fans read too much shit on social network work sites and don't know the facts. And as for Jamie he's had 3 fights in 2 year kid just wants to fight to pay his bills not paying bills been inactive is he.. Pro boxing let's remember is a business as well as a sport you get 1 go at this game it's the fighter getting in the ring putting his life at risk they diserve what ever they can get IMO

Big time :TU: Remember got it at about 10 days notice pug-spec? Got 30,000 grand, won the title against a good opponent then as you say shot himself in the foot!! Inactive for a year or so the RR lays him out in spectacular fashion...great atmosphere tho :box: :TU:

Not McDonnell fault Hobson couldn't do his job properly. He failed to get the fight on tv which woukd of covered costs and raised profile. He failed to promote the fight and bring in any sort of a crowd. You can't just book the ground and say job done let's hope people turn up. That's when you have actually got to sell the event which he didn't do

That fight was all over the media and every boxing fan in the country knew when it was on, who was boxing and how to get to Doncaster. Boxing for a world title doesn't make you an instant attratction; the world jet ski champion lives in the next village to Jamie but isn't mobbed and there's maybe a 1000 turn out to watch him - for free; guess what? Jet ski is a minority sport and so is boxing; Jamie is a bantamweight without a heavy punch, who boxes distance fights and lives in a town where boxing is not particularly well supported. Lets see how many are there to see him in his next fight and I wonder if he'll get £160,000 for it?

Hobson did well to get Ceja over here and excellent to deliver the fight to the Keepmoat - also the fault for the bout not being on TV is more down the ludicrous TV situation in British boxing at the minute - is it Chris Sanigars fault that Dean Francis won't be shown on TV in his title fight? With all the promotion in the world there is only a small proportion of boxing fans likely to attend a show, Jamie Mcdonnell is not Ricky Hatton jack.

Hobson had tv offers but turned them down. He's employed as a promoter. He failed to promote the fight properly. He delivered the fight assumed people would turn up and put his feet up thinking his job was done. If he's done what I have heard he's done it's despicable really. Especially as he's painted himself as the innocent party. I hope it all comes our

Would you have preferred it if he'd have done nothing and been satisfied being the doormat? He's out of pocket by tens of thousands and Jamie has gone off without a care in the world with £160,000 Hobson put in his pocket; I think I'd be tempted to kick back as well. Promoting is a 2 way thing and a boxer has to do his part, maybe jetting off to Turkey the morning after the bout instead of doing the media rounds etc etc.

And for the life of me I can't understand why Jamie didn't get off to Brentwood before the Ceja bout, probably Eddie would have packed 15,000 in there for him and Hobson wouldn't feel so slighted to kick back and he'd have not blown so much money on someone who thought so little of him and which ultimately came to nothing.

Hobson isn't the one that's been shat on it's the other way round. Hobson is employed as the promoter and he's failed to promote him simple as that. When it comes out what Hobson has actually done you will be shocked

I assume you may have some info from the McDonnell side of the story, but I really doubt Hobson will have much sway with the good ol' boys at the IBF, less than Eddie Boycie Hearn at the any rate - as Ed has more money and clout. The IBF rule book means dick, as long as you have a nice wad of cash.

If you're in the know jack I'd like to know; I don't for a minute think all this is one way or that Jamie is the devil and Hobson a sweet angel but I am old enough to see that Hobson brought McDonnell from an also ran who wasn't committed to boxing to his potential, delivered a series of bouts that elevated his standing and did so at personal cost as Jamie is not a stadium fighter - he'll not be PPV or have casual fans buying hats and tee shirts. He ought to have been more active but every bout around Euro level is a potential major banana skin; Jamie is not a standout talent like Roy Jones or Floyd Mayweather, he could have been in with ticking over fighters and come unstuck - if he had he'd have been mis-managed.

It's a shame as I was happy that a lad from Donny had got a world title and was doing well but it really looks like he's run for the hills; the grass isn't always greener - he may be on SKY TV but without his belt that he worked his arse of for and he may well get beat, then where will he be?

How do you he got 160,000 and do you know if he's actually paid the full some up? Hobson got Jamie a world title shot which is fair play but he's the manager and 3 fights in 2 year is shocking Eddie will get Jamie's name out there and get him fighting more often he's worked wonders on kell brook and Carl froch at raising there name

Boxing fans don't really bring the money in, non boxing fans do. Otherwise the York Hall would be moving to the 02.

Face facts, it was poorly promoted. I had two friends of mine who own businesses tell me that Dennis came in on the Thursday or Friday before the fight, asking them to put posters up. What the hell is that about?

It was also badly organised, it was amateur hour in my eyes, having been to a ton of live boxing over the years. The crowd were louder for one of the undercard fights than they were for the main event.

Yeah Hobson would argue he paid through the nose to get him every single advantage but for what? If he's not prepared to get him a reasonably quick defence organised, it's back to "Jamie who?"

1) That figure is pretty common knowledge or a Doncaster urban myth along with the signing on fee and car.

2) I don't know if Hobson has paid the full amount up but can imagine he'll drag his feet even more now.

3) Kell Brook is not really a fighter anyone can point to and say that they are active; Kell may be number 19 P4P on BoxRec but in real life he's been a pro 9 years and is in an eliminator next time up.

I think that it is silly to put Jamie in the same sentence as Froch; as course Froch has a highly recognised name; for 4 and half years he's boxed no one but the top names in his division away from home for the most part; 4 and a half years ago Jamie was coming back from the Haskins loss v Anthony Hanna
