Vargas V's Mosley - WBA 154 elininator.
Has this fight been signed yet? What a good fight if it has.
Mosley to win MD for me although he definatley looked a bit jaded in his last outing. I thought he was staying at 147 as well?

Both are a bit faded now, shame it didn't happen when they were both in their prime. I have a lot of respect for Vargas, look at his record the guy has ducked no one win or lose. He gave it some against Trinidad after getting knocked down twice early and just ran out of steam with DLH. Beaten Quartey, Wright, Campas, Marquez etc he is a warrior.
I go for Vargas here, in their primes I would have gone for Moseley. I don't think Vargas is as shot as people think, just think he was always a little overated.
However, Moseley is shot, he's been poor since the second round of the first Forrest fight. How he won a world title at Light Middle is beyond me.

I think the new Vargas looks awful. He seems to be thinking too much in there and not being his old aggressive (and wreckless) self. He doesn't look natural with these new more defensive tactics. He looks well past his age in the ring and I would expect Mosley to beat him with a clear UD or late stoppage.
I would argue its not a bit out of him, no doubt, but not a shit load. Remember on a few ringsiders cards he was up vs DLH at the time of the stoppage - with only one more round to go.steve689 wrote:I would disagree with Vargas being overrated, i think he is a talented guy but the Trinidad fight knocked a shit load out of him, he has never been the same since. And close to being "shot" but maybe not quite.
Takes a damn fine fighter to do that. I would have tipped DLH to have beaten even the best version of Vargas. Trinidad beat him, Wright essentially beat him, and some people (although I didn't see the fight) thought that a faded Ike Quartey beat him.
He just falls that little short of greatness, that some punters did say he was potentially following comprehensive victories over Yori Boy Campas and Raul Marquez.

I know Stu, but I don't think it'll take much to put Vargas in trouble these days. Same goes for his old nemesis Ike Quartey.stujones wrote:How many years since Moseley scored a KD?MightyWarrior wrote:One of my favorites, but I think Vargas' chin retired a few years back. Mosley by KO.
In fact, that would be a decent cross roads fight - 50/50.

Can expect this been not too exciting - each fighter is now scared to let their hands go and scared to goto war - I think this hurts Mosleys game but may well help Vargas game. Mosleys the sort of fight who doesn't age well - Vargas may well have aged better. Its all about who has the most left.
I haven't seen Vargas recently but apparently hes more defensive - might not make for excitement but could this help him? Mosley won but looked to have problems last time out. Vargas is naturally bigger and the bigger 154/147lbers have pushed Mosley around (DLH2, Forrest and Winky).
I think it will be close but Vargas is likely to be triumphant in a close fight with close rounds.

I haven't seen the "new Vargas" yet although i do have the Castillejo fight somewhere so will have to fish it out and take a look. I thought the Wright fight was very close and not the robbery many people claim, i don't think you could argue strongly either way. I thought Vargas beat Quartey although again i watched that fight so long ago i will have to take another look. Doubt Vargas will ever be a great but as i said before his CV is impressive and win or lose he has never ducked a challenge, he did very well against DLH as you say he was up on some peoples cards at the end of the fight.
I can't stand vargas and i like wright, but i have no problem with the decision in favor of Vargas. He outhustled Winky in the late rounds of a close fight. It happens. Those days are sadly gone for Fernando. He's more defensive now, and many ppl feel that's cos he's hiding that he has very little left.
In the castellijo fight vargas did try to make it a war at one point but his trainer gave him a good bollocking for it. Perhaps he is changing his style because his old style didn't cut it enough even though he did give DLH trouble in their fight.
Hope vargas wins this one, all depends on the fighting style and how poor mosley fights imo.

It's such a shame it didn't happen while both men were in their primes, Mosley you would think would have a good edge in speed but Vargas was no mug at his peak. Vargas isn't the oldest and still relatively young, that's why i think the Trinidad fight knocked a lot out of him. I don't see any other basis to suggest he is "shot" as he hasn't been in a huge amount of wars.
