Jim Tracey

Post by Palais »

I repeat this query as it dissapeared during the tranference.

We have two records for Jim Tracey but I'm pretty convinced it's the same boxer.

1 - of South Africa / 1916-23 / 1-9-0
This one boxed in Sydney, Auckland, New York, Buenos Aires and East Chicago. He even boxed Sam Langford for the Mexican HWGT Title, in Mexico City. But NEVER in South Africa

2 - of Australia / 1916-23 / 1-3-1
(One Jim Tracey was the Australian HWGT Champion during that era).
This one boxed in Sydney, Hamilton, NZ, Oakland, Tacoma and Portland.

robin, ric, colin entered most of the fights. barry and matt a couple.

If one of you could confirm if it's the same boxer and maybee explain the correct nationality, I will make it one and the same record.

If not, I'll do it anyway, with a note indication for ev. re-editing

Think you are correct :-

El Universal, 6, 13, 14 and 16 July 1923. Langford refused to fight during the day because the sunlight hurthis eyes. He was 48 years old at this time and nearly blind. Tracey was 26 years old and billed at the champion of Australia and New Zealand. The boxers measurements offer an interesting contrast. Langford was 5 ft. 6 in. tall.weighed 178 pounds, and had a 69-in reach; Tracey was 6 ft. 3½-in., 210 pounds, and had an 81½-in. reach. Langford knocked him out in the fourth.

Thanks a lot John!
That's the kind of info I really like. Good to see you're "alive" and busy with entries.

However, the bad news is that yours (and others) topic replies don't show automatically in the mailbox, like before. This one didn't.
When I go back in my box and try old topic replies, they either don't exist anymore or something totally else comes up.
I can live with that, but another editor may come up with the same bug.

I seem to recall the local newspapers saying that the one who fought in Tacoma and Portland was from the land of Aus.

Thanks Ric!
This guy could hace been born in South Africa. Some keeper of Boxing News may know. On my mind, there's something about it.
Anyway, I made one record of the two. Time will tell...
