Haven't downloaded it yet, but I have a question maybe you or someone else could answer. Last night, ESPN2 aired the 1950 fight between Louis and Ezzard Charles. Watching that fight, I noticed Louis had an almost deformed looking left shoulder -- like perhaps he had broken his collarbone once upon a time.

Was I mistaken? I was not aware of Louis having had any prior shoulder problems.

..yeah..the bump was benign. started appearing...though hard to see...as early as the walcott fights and may have been there long before that. didn't affect him in any way.

i get so damn mad as espnc2 when they show these classic fights. the full tape of most of them...louis/charles in this case..is available...but they insert so many commercials that they skip some middle rounds. you can always count on this to happen when it is a fifteen round fight.

this may be of interest...charles won that one going away..but you'll notice that ezz's left eye was puffed badly very early...and so was the bomber's. and joe's got worse as the fight went on...closed entirely at the end. charles later said....in a few interviews and in one with me years later...that the louis jab was still a very strong weapon....that it had his face swollen and it was like a lot of fighters power punch. ezzard was in his hotel room with ice packs on his face for a few hours after the fight. if you study this one you'll see that the bomber's jab was the only punch he was consistently landing...and it alone could mess you up.
