Malik Jackson deserved the nod (robbed?) against Andrew Selby.

Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
The quality of the film was not good but from what I could see, I gave Jackson the 1st rd and Selby the 2nd and 3rd. It was close though.pendrake wrote:

Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
Watched it there too, taught the 1st was 50/50 jackson got the bigger punches in but towards the end of the round selby was landing well, proebly would give the round to Jackson though. 2nd round was definetly Selbys and the 3rd was tight enough but id lean towards Selby.
Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
close fight, but I thought Selby was preening ineffectively in round three and getting caught with most of the meaningful punches.tflanagan5 wrote:Watched it there too, taught the 1st was 50/50 jackson got the bigger punches in but towards the end of the round selby was landing well, proebly would give the round to Jackson though. 2nd round was definetly Selbys and the 3rd was tight enough but id lean towards Selby.

Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
I am sorry to say this but the US team is the worst I have ever seen (and I´ve seen some pretty poor ones before). Not a single boxer in the quarter-finals and really poor boxing. The US boxers won a total of four bouts against opponents from Angola, Sri Lanka, Guinea and Argentina. They lost 10 bouts and didn´t even fight the top nations Kazakstan, Cuba or Russia.
Top nations so far with boxers left in the quarter-finals who start tomorrow:
1. Kazakstan 9 boxers
2. Cuba, Russia 7 boxers
4. India, Uzbekistan, Italy, Azerbaijan, Ireland 5 boxers
9. Brazil, Germany 3 boxers
11. Venezuela, Thailand, Ukraine, Croatia, Wales, Algeria 2 boxers
17. Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Argentina, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, England, Armenia, Netherlands 1 boxer
30 countries have boxers in the quarter-finals. 317 million people and the US cannot produce better boxers? Something is seriously wrong.
Europe 38 boxers
Asia 25 boxers
America 15 boxers
Africa 2 boxers
Oceania 0 boxers

Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
Some favorites so far:
Kazakh southpaws Zhanibek Alimkhanuly and Adilbek Nyazymbetov.
Most of the cubans who are left but standing out so far might be Yosvany Veitia, Yasnier Toledo and Julio Cesar La Cruz.
Welshman Andrew Selby put on the performance of the championships today against the cuban.
Russian Alexander Besputin looks unstoppable though kazakh Daniyar Yeleusinov could give him a fight.
Brazilian Everton Lopes is a class act.

donnellon; Have you ever tried keeping a Talented USA kid in the Gym these days?
Have you ever tried talking some sense into them?
Have you ever seen them hungry enough to try and better them selves without hitting the streets as the answer?
Have you ever been able to keep their attention in the gym without them stoppong to text message or answer a call they get or play videos?
Have you ever tried to keep them from hanging out with bad influence persons?
Have you ever tried keeping them from the next dateing friend?
I don't think many other countries around the world has as much freedom as the US for kids to get lost in. Kids are spoiled these days even the poor and homeless in America.
I have been in boxing since the 60's to date and it seems every ten years this situation gets worse for amateur boxing.
The streets are winning the battle for these kids. SAD SAD

Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
I've tried keeping Irish kids in the gym(and lost most of them), it's not a universal problem but Irish culture mirrors the USA and indeed GB so we are familiar with a lot of those issues.the Irish system isn't perfect but it ticks a lot of the boxes. I've coached for 15 years and have reared 6 kids myself.ABC BOXING wrote:donnellon; Have you ever tried keeping a Talented USA kid in the Gym these days?

Have you ever tried to keep them from hanging out with bad influence persons?
Have you ever tried keeping them from the next dateing friend?
I don't think many other countries around the world has as much freedom as the US for kids to get lost in. Kids are spoiled these days even the poor and homeless in America.
I have been in boxing since the 60's to date and it seems every ten years this situation gets worse for amateur boxing.

Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
Don't know the Usa men's team but know the Jr team well. Usa Jr team had at least 6 boxers make it to final 16 at World Championships, with 2 boxers only 15 and one only 14 , and was victim of extreme bias judging in final 16 costing Team more medals.Us women's Jr and Youth won 4 Golds at World Championships and sum other medals. Don't know what the case is with men team Usa but do know that Usa is not the most liked country on planet.donnellon wrote:" 317 million people and the US cannot produce better boxers? Ireland has 5 through with 4 and a bit million souls...............

Savon was absolutely robbed today against the Azerbaijani, first round was tight but Savon was the aggressor and landed the best punches of the round, in rounds 2 and 3 Savon destroyed him and was constantly tagging him with hard shots ,while all Mammadov had to do was back pedal and throw the odd punch to win the fight. That was really disgraceful the whole arena booed the decision the cubans looked gob-smacked. I taught the Anthony Joshua robbery was bad but it had nothing on this. I dont know how any judge in there right mind could have gave the second round to Mammadov, i wouldnt have been surprised if they had scored it 10-8 to Savon

How do you explain Usa having 6 boxers in Pros the best on planet in their weight class? Hopkins,Ward,Mayweather,Bradley, Danny Garcia and Mikey Garcia are all the very best on the planet and only 1 of them was the best in the very suspect international Amatuer game.ABC BOXING wrote:donnellon; Have you ever tried keeping a Talented USA kid in the Gym these days?
Have you ever tried talking some sense into them?
Have you ever seen them hungry enough to try and better them selves without hitting the streets as the answer?
Have you ever been able to keep their attention in the gym without them stoppong to text message or answer a call they get or play videos?

Ireland have a good amateur programme and reward their am fighters well. They, like India too, seem to groom their fighters for the amateur system it must be said. The US seems to have a different approach. They seem to have an eye on the longer game, its clear as day that the US produce better pro's than ams. I mean, how many Irish and Inidan world titlists do you ever see? Barely even see challengers from these nations let alone dominant champions.scallum wrote:How do you explain Usa having 6 boxers in Pros the best on planet in their weight class?
