Lubbers doesn't beat the thirty nine year old Parkinson's ridden Ali who lost a decision to Berbick. He really doesn't. Nor does he beat a 64 year old Big George today if he had ample time to train.

The Muhammad Ali Camp sent '39' year-old Dave Bailey {Muhammad Ali 'sparring-partner}

Muhammad, after losing to Joe Frazier in March 1971, was out to embark on a European Tour,
and ABC-TV was looking to line up bouts with 'capable' but non-threatening European
Heavyweights {ie; Jurgen Blin}.

Dave Bailey was sent in the see what Rudi Lubbers had.

Dave was 'KO'd in 4'.

Rudi was 'too good', and was scratched off the list.

First of all there has never been a European that could beat any reasonably intact version of the GOAT. Second of all after he lost to Frazier the GOAT set to clean out the heavyweight division. He beat Jimmy Ellis, Mac Foster, Bob Foster, Jerry Quarry, Floyd Patterson, Blue Lewis, and George Chuvalo in that time period. The GOAT wasn't looking for easy fights. The GOAT was looking for easy fights after the Rumble In the Jungle and especially the Thrilla In Manilla.

What did he have left to prove?

Nothing. That's right.

Buster Mathis was for real. He beat Joe Frazier in the Olympic tryouts but couldn't represent the USA because he broke his right hand. He also gave Frazier a tough match as a pro.

Oh, and he would have separated the diminutive Mr. Lubbers from his senses.

P.S. The GOAT beat Jimmy Ellis, Mac Foster, Bob Foster, Jerry Quarry, Floyd Patterson, Blue Lewis, Joe Bugner, and George Chuvalo in that time period. They all would be heavy favorites against the diminutive Mr. Lubbers.

Muhammad Ali vs. Rudi Lubbers

In the meantime, Heavyweight Champion - George Foreman was trying to line up a Title Defense against;
* Larry Middleton
* Oscar Bonavena
* Kenny Norton
* Jose Manuel Urtain
* Jurgen Blin

All guys the GOAT had beat or could beat. In fact the GOAT was the only fighter to ever stop Ringo.
Foreman's and his handlers plans were to wait for the GOAT to get too old to be a threat. They didn't wait long enough.

Big George and Ringo fought 149 times. The only fighter to stop both men was the "feather fisted" Cassius Clay.

Go figure...

Strange, cuz it sure seems like his name is on the list.

Muhammad Ali {3" taller} and {20 lbs. heavier}, always the 'bully'.
:roll: I'm done with this thread. If you think Ali didn't want to fight Lubbers in 1972 or '71 because he was "Too good" for Ali. You are either a troll who's thing is to hate on Ali or an absolute idiot.

Either way I'm done wasting my time with this conversation.

You're the only idiot on this entire forum who would be saying the things you are saying. Even other Ali haters wouldn't go so far as to suggest that Ali avoided Lubbers or that Lubbers could've defeated Foreman because they would know it's just nonsense.

I missed that chestnut from Il Bugiardo. Instead of facing the diminutive Mr. Lubbers he faced Jimmy Ellis, Blue Lewis, Mac Foster, and Buster Mathis who outweighed him by thirty pounds.

Il Duce, did you know that Ali did a television interview between rounds with Reg Gutteridge during this fight?

Yes I do, it was a 'diversionary ploy' to take away from his inept performance against a small Dutchman.

Do you also know, that the Senayan Stadium was woefully empty, as only 25,000 Indonesians showed up
to a Stadium that held 125,000.

The fans even got tired of booing Muhammad Ali, and many fell asleep....... :zzz:

I have pictures........
Il bugiardo, how is winning twelve of twelve rounds on two cards and eleven of twelve rounds on the other an inept performance?

Yes it was not a great spectacle. Still, you can't beat Sonny Liston, Floyd Patterson, Ken Norton, Joe Frazier and George Foreman every fight I guess

A Rock concert is a far more Festive occasion than a Prize fight. Particularly a one-sided one.

I'd rather see Deep Purple live in their heyday than Ali vs Lubbers as well.

Woodstock or Rumble In The Jungle. I'd ask Il Bugiardo but I know he would say Grand Ole Opry.

That is a Fact

The only odor was the flop sweat that emanated from the dying carcass of the heretofore invincible George Foreman.

Woodstock without question.

I think Deep Purple is a pretty good band, they're not one of my favorite bands of all time or nothing, but I wouldn't pass up the chance to see them live. I do think Smoke on the Water is a pretty overrated song personally, though Duce is correct that's it one of the riffs that beginner guitar players gravitate toward.

Deep Purple has a lot of better songs than that one in my opinion.

That's a good example of what I meant. Though it's a cover of a Jimi Hendrix tune.

Ritchie Blackmore, I see him all the time in Stamford, Connecticut and Nesconset, L.I., New York.

A smaller guy than he appears on stage too. Nice guy. Hates his ex-Wife as well. He told me.

Plays all those 'Medieval Art Festivals' in Tuxedo, New York during the Summer.

"Highway Star" and 'My Woman From Tokyo", personal favorites.

No results found for Newspaper Articles In 'Algemeen Daglsad' {Rotterdam, South Holland} May 1974, June 1974, August 1974 and November 1974.

You won't find them on Google.

You have to have the actual {dated} Newspapers, which I have.

The only time Rudi was 'shaken' was in Round 10, but he came right back after Muhammad
and landed a great right-hand to the left side of his face.

The Reg Gutteridge 'corner interview' was blown out of proportion, and Muhammad only had a few
words with the Ringside Journalist between a Few Rounds.
Blown out of proportion like pretty much everything you say about Rudi Lubbers?

How convenient that you just happen to have some Holland newspapers from the 1970's in your possession.

Il Duce wrote:I've had them for years, when I was doing research on this bout and Rudi Lubbers.

From the Articles,

* Muhammad Ali predicted a 'Knockout' in Round 5

* Rudi Lubbers though listed at 6' 0", was closer to 5' 10 1/2"

* His weight was listed at 194 lbs., but Rudi had to bulk up on Weight-Lifting and Protein Shakes
to keep his weight above 190 lbs., during Training Camp.

* Rudi said Muhammad was much easier to hit than he thought, despite having an 8" Reach disadvantage.

* The Ring at only 16' 6", was chosen by the Ali Camp.

* Muhammad Ali only talked to Reg Gutteridge 'twice' during fight, and only for a few words each time.

* Reg Gutteridge was one of only a handful of Newsman there that Night.

* The Indonesian Fans cheered for Rudi, not Muhammad Ali.

* Muhammad Ali was breathing very hard at the end of Round 10, and was frustrated that he couldn't drop Rudi.
What was so impressive to you about Lubbers losing every round against Ali?

Were you impressed by Trinidad's performance against Winky Wright?

Were you impressed by Carlos Baldomir's performance against Floyd Mayweather?
