Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
Now I see how the 90's and 80's numbers come from but adding them up doesn't make a difference because once you lose two rounds you lost the fight only way to win is a knock out. I think I saw a 85-84 score I might be wrong but how can that be correct in a three rounder?
found it (+91 Magomed Medshidov AZE dec Roberto Cammarelle ITA 85-84-FIGHT OF THE DAY)

The official score on the AIBA website for the Cammarelle/Medshidov is very confusing and different from what I saw.
Judges from
Ecuador 28-28
Algeria 29-27
Tunisia 28-28
85-83
Losing the first round on this system of scoring is especially difficult if you are a counterpuncher as the boxer is forced to be more aggressive and has to fight against his natural instincts.
Another point it is human nature to remember the later stages of a round than the earlier half and may play to the old adage that the round should go to the boxer who finishes better and looks more comfortable.
Finally it is natural for a fan to concentrate his eyes on the boxer he wants to win,it can be difficult to step back and look at both boxers.

mike222; your statement makes sense (Finally it is natural for a fan to concentrate his eyes on the boxer he wants to win,it can be difficult to step back and look at both boxers.)
I have seen Judges do the same thing concentrate on one fighter and not look at the whole picture. That is the problem with scoring fights pros and amateurs.
Now back to scoring a 28-28 doesn't make sense because it shows no body won a round so if it was even they should of both got a ten? Especially with them not showing any deductions. Now the 29-27 shows one guy won two rds but also shows that the other fighter got his behind handed to him to get a 27. Which I am told it could of gone either way. I didn't see it but I guess this person saw it.
Did you see this fight yourself?

Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
Judges were encouraged to score rounds 10-8 in case of one fighter dominating a round. I saw a lot of 30-26, 29-27 and also some 30-25, 30-24 scores...
28-28 score in +91 kg semifinal just indicates one fighter winning two close rounds and the other one winning one very clearly (counts don't give any bonus in AIBA scoring so unlike in pros 10-8 seldom indicates a kd or standing 8-count)

Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
Well I knew that a knock down does mean but 1 point which it really doesn't help a amateur win a round as I seen in a local smoker the guy that lost knocked down the winner in round one and round three but still lost 30-24 but not counting the knock downs as being good for the loser I still thought that the loser had done more than enough to win the second and third rounds but the winner is a local star so we know who wins those fights.
Anyway your explanation of the 28-28 scoring really made me realize 2016 Olympic boxing is out as things to watch during Olympics for myself and probably thousands more as it was in 2012 for many. We now know that whoever wins first round ends up winner of fight so no need to watch and support Olympic boxing in 2016. With this kind of scoring you might as well use the round system 1 to winner of rd zero to loser and scores would be easier to add 3-0 2-1 no draws really better scoring and kids can always say he beat me by one round and not feel upset about losing 90 to 72.

Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
Thanks Mike222 I will be looking out for your observation results only because this scores really have me wondering how this type of score is possible and still have a winner without a real score of a winner. If they are going with a decision of a computer they tell me they are back to square one and 10 point scoring is C R A P to me it is already crap with them giving the loser of round a 8 which means a close round isn't visable by just looking at the scores.
Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
With computer scoring whoever won the 1st round usually won the fight also. I think the stats were something in the high 70% winners won the 1st round. It could be more, I just don't remember the exact percentage that I was told by a USOC member who researched it back in '09.ABC BOXING wrote:Well I knew that a knock down does mean but 1 point which it really doesn't help a amateur win a round as I seen in a local smoker the guy that lost knocked down the winner in round one and round three but still lost 30-24 but not counting the knock downs as being good for the loser I still thought that the loser had done more than enough to win the second and third rounds but the winner is a local star so we know who wins those fights.

Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
The three judges scored as follows
Judge A 10-9 9-10 10-9 29-28
Judge B 10-9 10-9 10-9 30-27
Judge C 10-9 10-9 9-10 29-28
In round 3 Medshidov was given a warning for use of the head resulting in a one point deduction. The revised scores are thus 28-28,29-27,28-28
In round one Medshidov rocked the Italian with a right and then dropped him on the canvas for an eight count and yet won the round only on a 10-9 margin (Richie Woodhall thought this was laughable and he was right it should have been 10-8)
Bearing in mind that Domenico Valentino was dropped in one round and yet won it 10-9 ,it seems to me that nothing is awarded for knockdowns.

this is amazing I thought a warning was just that a warning but this score system you deduct for warning. It has always been in amateur boxing that Knock downs were only a point such as in punching nothing more which I always thought that was wrong as fighter doesn't get credit for knock downs.
Sorry mike222 but 2016 Olympics just got worse

Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
The way bouts are supposed to be scored with the new system:
10-9 (very close round)
10-8 (round has a clear winner)
10-7 (round has a dominant winner)
10-6 (winner completely outclasses his opponent--should never even happen, because the ref should have stopped the fight already)
So basically, if judges are scoring fights the way they are instructed to, there should be lots of 10-8 rounds. 10-9 should be reserved for razor-close rounds, and 10-7 should be reserved for a round where someone gets his butt handed to him. Knockdowns do not give anyone extra points. I'm not sure if judges are allowed to score 10-10 rounds.

With Vitali perhaps retired, and Wald 37, the future of the heavyweights could go to Medzhidov or Dyscko. Do either plan to turn professional? Dychko is under 23 years of age. He has time. Medzhidov is already 27, he should turn pro now if he plans to do so.yu265545 wrote:I saw Medzhidov's last two fights, Cammarelle and Dychko. He has some good skills and obviously has power. Being only 27, I can see him being a sought after pro following this tournament (maybe by K2 Promotions - both Vitaly and Wlad were in attendance). He supposedly has signed up for APB but they had said the same thing about Lomachenko and Falcao. I cannot see how APB will be able to pay him more than a non-AIBA promoter at heavyweight.
The Azeri's have been good at keeping their best fighters amateur (no doubt with massive secret payouts) so he certainly could stay with AIBA.
Lets see what happens with APB. First they announced it would begin in the fall of 2013. Then the exhibition bouts that were supposed to have happened have not come off which is a bad sign (not to mention embarrassing). They have so far failed to secure a single gold medallist from London, with 7 out of 10 turning pro outside of AIBA. Will they have the star power to secure TV revenue?

I think Medzhidov would make the better pro but in saying that he got dominated by Usyk in WSB, so its hard to tell where either of them would stand in the pro gamepound per pound wrote:With Vitali perhaps retired, and Wald 37, the future of the heavyweights could go to Medzhidov or Dyscko. I think they can give Usyk and Lomachenko the Cruiser and Feather world titles now.
Re: 2013 Elite Mens World Championships Almaty Kazakhstan
Vasyl Lomachenko? I saw this kid for first time recently and all I can say is Gollly Gee! This guy is the most talented kid I have seen coming out the amatures since Mayweathermike222 wrote:I think they can give Usyk and Lomachenko the Cruiser and Feather world titles now.
