Clinton Woods - Glengoffe III?

Post by Autobarn »

If Tarver's going to fight Tyson in that hideous attempt to cash in, does this clear the path for Glen Johnson to enter a rubber match with Clinton Woods instead? Johnson has earned the IBF's top slot (I think) since beating Khalid Jones, and IMO Woods-Johnson III would be better than the first two fights.

Woods has become very composed and classy at the top level and Johnson is looking more frayed and ragged.

Anyone think this fight will happen, and who wins this time?

If Woods doesn't get Tarver or Jones (which looks unlikely) then their isn't really anone else worth fighting in the division. Tiozzo, Erdei and Adamek are the other belt holders in the division but I just cant see them fights happening. Johnson is comfortable and confident coming to England but I think Woods will get a UD over him third time round!

Woods wins this time. I'd rather see some unification battles though.

Jone's ain't worth fighting other than to avenge his loss.

If Woods fought Erdei then won he'd be the true Linear champ. :TU:

Would be better to fight Johnson or unify rather than fight that clown Tarver or Jones.

Woods should win a third fight, then again Johnson is approaching 50 isn't he? ;)

I'd totally agree Woods-Johnson III should be next. Johnson showed he's not ready for the coffin order just yet by beating (and stopping) Jones (as in George) but Woods has a new lease of life as a world champion, and I'm sure he'd get a solid UD in Sheffield.

Unifications would also be worth looking into. Tarver may be the linear champ or whatever, but I wouldn't say the big three/four champs are exactly chumps holding paper titles. Although Erdei, Tiozzo and Adameck are all Universum now arn't they? May be pretty tricky getting one of those fighters across to England now, although that's just a guess

I'd like to see Woods - Johnson 3, i seriously believe Woods when he says he had some sort of Iron deficiency for both his fights with Johnson thus having a lack of strength.

Watch Woods - Gonzalez, Woods looked strong in that fight constantly pushing Gonzalez back to the ropes.

This extra strength Woods has got may be the big factor in a 3rd Johnson fight.

Anyway i'd say still a close fight but with Clinton nicking a close UD - maybe winning by nicking the later rounds.

I'll be at Clinton next fight, just hoping its a big one.

I definitely go for Woods. He almost won the 1st fight (with the big last round), but definitely lost the 2nd.

He's definitely much improved with the new training / dietary stuff. Sensible, well balanced, and he's proved it vs Hoye and Gonzalez. If he can use his reach advantage, and slow the fight down to his own pace, he could do it.

I don't see Tiozzo or Erdei getting involved in unifications, unless against each other. Adameck would make for a great fight, so would his probable next challenger Briggs.

Tarver looks like he's on his last legs stamina wise, and his technique has been frankly hideous in his last 3 fights.

Agree with you on all of the above. Although i think that Erdei might fight Tiozzo if he came to Germany/Hungary.

Clinton is much improved - a win against Glencoffe is not a certainty , but i feel he will do it , should it happen again.

Clinton can he beat Tarver???? i think he probably could , it all depends on what Tarver turns up the rematch Tarver or the first fight Tarver!!!!

I'd love to see Woods take on Tarver, but AT won't be a light heavy much longer. Unless he can con the world into buying Tarver-Jones IV. The first and third fights were among the dullest I've seen.

Just been reading that Julio Gonzalez is trying to get a Woods rematch. Who the heck would want to see that? Bring on Johnson again, let's see if this new improved Clinton has any answer for pressure.

I think Woods should be looking for a domestic voluntary first. With Johnson the mandatory, cannot see Woods getting great money for a third match. Johnson is a bigger name now than before, but is still not exactly a huge draw.

I'd like to see a fighter making a few voluntary defences before a mandatory challenge. Try and go for Tarver, if not - keep it domestic.

What pisses me off is Woods either wants mandatories or well known, aged guys (Roy Jones). The best fights are guys like Adameck and Briggs, who never get mention, not being well known.

Woods-Johnson III would be a much better fight than the first two

Woods doesn't seem to get the press of pretty much any other big british fighter, I wonder why that is, he has a big 3 belt and is a good bloke.

Adamek is a hell of a fighter to watch. That guy looks like he hits like a brick wall.

Adamek will win again. Adamek had a broken nose before the fight , which impared him - he still won well for me.

I dont like Briggs , he is overated and never fought anyone.

I see all the current champs beating him.

I think the future of the division could be with Woods, Adameck, Briggs.

I mean Tarver's off to waste his career at heavy. Johnson can't keep on at this level much longer. Tiozzo doesn't seem serious about taking on good opposition since that great win over Michalczewski, and is no spring chicken. Jones needs to get out of boxing. Erdei looks a lot slower than when he beat Gonzalez, and to be honest, does anyone think he actually beat garay in either of those two fights?

Erdei has ALWAYS had a stamina problem, hes still in his prime its just one of his weaknesses. As for Adamek he says he wants to unify so lets see these other "champs" step up to fight him!

ok, but Erdei looked like one quick, snappy customer vs Julio Gonzalez and Jose Hilton Santos. I give him props for the Sahnoune fight, however.

I like Glencoffe Johnson, and would like to see him get a shot at Clinton's title. I think he might take it too, as he won the last won and did enough to win the first one, even if was announced as a draw. I do think Clinton wants a big name though, but if Tarver is fighting on and Jones doesn't take this fight, maybe Johnson is the way forward.
