Joshua - Anyone excited??
Just watched the fight with Butlin this morning and what a great performance from Joshua. I think Butlin was actually scared in the second round and seemed to flinch when he anticipated the punch coming just before the ref stopped it. That tells me he's a hard puncher.
I think we have a great up coming heavyweight here who has come into heavyweight boxing at the right time. I am getting a little sentimental as I am watching a young Frank Bruno. What a lovely right hand he has.
Is this the new sensation in the UK? What an exciting time we have in progress!
Anyone else share my enthusiasm?

What the “future peoples champion” better believe it...
He's looking good at the moment, powerful and fast can, he take a punch though? This is something they need to find out soon, or we could have another David Price.

Liked him in the ams and have loved the little we've seen so far in the pros. Early days to judge potential yet, need to see what he's like when things aren't going his way, etc. But he certainly's got star quality in the way he carries himself and goes about his work.
I've not really been a 'supporter' any fighter for a good few years. I've got my favourites to watch obviously, but I'm mostly bothered about seeing good fights rather than who wins. But there's something about Joshua that makes me a fan, it might be just the heavyweight factor.

Does remind me of Bruno.

Yeah he's pretty top heavy on thin looking legs (for his size). I wonder what his stamina and chin are like.Groove Armada wrote:I worry about his durability. No real reason other than he is still a baby in the sport.

Great punching power though. On evidence so far, has raw ability to be a contender at world level, with question marks over the above (like any prospect will have for the first few years)
I also wish they wouldn't call him the peoples champion. That's something you acquire over years, not something you're given from day one.
I like his character though, seems very relaxed and decent person.

I reserve my judgment until i seen his whiskers tested , lets see him in with a few journeymen that are durable that can spoil and hit back etc
Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
joshua looks like a pro already he's definetly more lennox lewis than auderly harrison .
Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
Lewis had heart and will to win, the Mercer fight was a great example - I guess you never will know with a prospect until they have that gut check. Price came up short when the going got tough.stevedoc wrote:joshua looks like a pro already he's definetly more lennox lewis than auderly harrison .
Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
price was always robotic and i never really fancied him joshua already seems at home in the pro's obviously we need to see more of him and see what happens when he gets tagged or when the fight goes a few rounds but i have a good feeling about himMR T wrote:Lewis had heart and will to win, the Mercer fight was a great example - I guess you never will know with a prospect until they have that gut check. Joshua v Hughie fury possibly a world title unification fight in the future
Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
I think they are going to have to match him more tougher early now as there ain't no learning fights for him if he's blowing them away . I think your sprotts, sextons, mcdermotts are now fights he needs

Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
i know its hard to match him but why not put him in with someone who,s proven to be durable as opposed to just tough
Even Oliver McCall, surely they want rounds without getting beat,he,s your man right there

Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
Certainly looks the best prospect at heavyweight we have proper power and speed does anyone else even have those?
Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
I don't think larry even enterd the aba's josh is a world amateur finalist an Olympic champion that my friend is a very big differance .
Josh does look dodgy under fire but he would of evaded punches at top am level so people shouldn't over worry . People slag Bruno off but frank had a good stance he had his chin down & his hands high. It was only exhaustion that let him down

I like him but what i dont like is novice pros headlining shows, sets them up for big falls that they may not recover from
Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
Doesn't remind me much of Lewis or Harrison, with the only similarity being Olympic Gold.
He boxes rather eerily like Big Frank. Same kind of physique, a bit too musclebound up top. Sure he looks decent, with decent fundamentals but the level of opposition is not really anything to base how far he can go. The kid has ability and if turns out anywhere near the level of Bruno, he'd do well on the world stage.

A lot of guys seem at home in the pros against low-level opponents.stevedoc wrote:price was always robotic and i never really fancied him joshua already seems at home in the pro's obviously we need to see more of him and see what happens when he gets tagged or when the fight goes a few rounds but i have a good feeling about himMR T wrote:Lewis had heart and will to win, the Mercer fight was a great example - I guess you never will know with a prospect until they have that gut check. He's one to watch, but in my view it's premature to talk about him being world class, unifying titles, being better the Bruno, etc.
Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
I think his chin will be ok, he held shots from big punchers as an amateur against the likes of Cammarelle and the guy from Azerbaijan who scored an impressive KO in the world final today.
Josh hits hard, is very athletic, has a great attitude and is a nice guy, I think he'll go a long way. I also think he would come through a gut check.

We wont know what he's really capable of until we see him tested more, these guys are little more than walking punch bags who are picking up pay checks. I'm really looking forward to some future domestic bouts between Price, Fury and possibly Haye if he's still knocking about.

To me Joshua seems a proper 'fighter', with will and power and he's only young too and if looked after we could have a serious heavyweight on our hands. I never fancied Price, watched him a few times ringside and just felt there was an air of vulnerability about him. Joshua seems mentally strong and not the kind to fold easily. Very good young prospect.
Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
Will keep my excitment under wraps until i see him in a pro "fight".
Hard for Eddie to keep him busy and match him without over matching him. Prime example was Fury being matched with "big john" . Had that result gone tits it would never have left tyson. UK are obsessed with maintaining the '0'

Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
Yeah but I think above all weights the '0' as a heavyweight is really important, as the heavyweight champion elect is meant to be indestructable is he not? A guy like Price (as good a role model and nice guy as he seems) is a hard sell. 'Watch this guy he's a dead cert heavyweight champ. Those two KO defeats against Tony Thompson aside he's awesome!!!'
Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
Like to see him in with McDermott.....
Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
Joshua is looking very good, of course it is early days, like for Hughie Fury, I'd be confident of him making Euro level at least though
Re: Joshua - Anyone excited??
Big strong guy, good shape and a good dig. First time I've seen him on Saturday night. Reminds me a bit of Frank Bruno when he was on the way up.
