I wouldn't want a statue of a thrown fight in my town either.

Both Cassius Clay and Sonny Liston were never invited back to Lewiston, Maine
after May 25, 1965.

Not even for a little 'meet-and greet'.

I wonder why...............

That really was one of the more bizarre moments in heavyweight history. Out of the way place, crazy ending.

I've always wanted to visit Maine. Wonder if the building is still there in Lewiston. Wasn't it basically a smallish hockey rink?

Yeah because the conditions of the arena that's totally the main event fighters fault. Not the promoter or the guy who was in charge of setting up the event or anything.

We all know Physicians, especially 'head doctors', have deep inner problems......

'High Anxiety'

Are you suggesting you are not a 100% bona fide nutjob?

Your whole persona suggests you are operating from a therapy room in a high security unit like Broadmoor.

Strange that the sleepy town of Lewiston would turn down commemorating it's one major claim to fame---a historic heavyweight championship fight.
I couldn't find any verification that the Lewiston council did indeed vote thumbs down on a statue, so I've taken the liberty of contacting Mayor Robert E. Macdonald and am waiting to learn why the council made such an egregious decision.
When Hizzoner returns my inquiry I will share the info with all of you.
Perhaps if money is a problem in erecting the statue, we could all do a small part and pitch in.

I don't really think Clay vs Liston II is worthy of a statue.

If they were going to make a statue of Liston, it would have been better to consider Bronze....

A Clay Liston statue would never last.

Maybe it's a good thing it was never constructed.

Il Duce wrote:How about,

A Sonny Liston statue made of 'Clay'.

"Clay Pigeon'.
Is this a threatening sort of statement?....as we all know what a Clay Pigeon is for.
