Re: Michael Nunn - only another 11 years to go
A kilo of coke is worth a lot more than 24,000 US, there's 1000 g's in a kilo, and street value would probably be somewhere between 50-100 dollars a gram. They always calculate value based on street value, so it would have been somewhere between 50-100,000 USD.
There is nowhere in the world you can buy a Kilo for 200 USD, not even at source in Columbia or Bolivia.

He bought a kilo. Check the reports.
He was stung by an undercover cop and had it stuffed down his pants.

Well, it's being rather undervalued then, or maybe in the US they work out the value based onorbtastic wrote:He bought a kilo. Check the reports.

I have to say, that the so called war on drugs, is one of the biggest wastes of time ever - it's one of the least effective wars I've ever seen, given the record numbers of people taking drugs, and the huge rise in the power of the drug cartels in Mexico. All the criminilisation of drugs achieves, is to give organised criminals a license to print money.
I have little doubt that Nunn was acting as a mule for someone else that was making far more money from it, someone who no doubt is still at large, and still making a fortune. Criminal gangs aren't affected by the odd person being caught here or there, most of the drugs still get through.
Admittedly, he knew he was taking a huge risk, but in certain U.S states, you can get life imprisonment for getting busted three times in a row for possession of small amounts of drugs for personal use, which is frankly ridiculous.

Here when the Police release a "street value" you know it's massively inflated and just ridiculously out of line with the actual product.
22k is about right. Also, don't forget it was over ten years ago. Prices for drugs fluctuate due to supply/demand and all the rest. Cocaine is cheaper in the US due to its proximity to South America.

The Price of coke on the street hasn't changed much on either side of the pond for well more than a decade, and in fact if anything, it has gone down in price. A g of coke was 50 dollars in the US 10 years ago when I was there, and I'm informed it still is. Same is true here.orbtastic wrote:http://www.narcoticnews.com/Cocaine-Pri ... -U.S.A.phpjamesmcdonnell wrote:Well, it's being rather undervalued then, or maybe in the US they work out the value based onorbtastic wrote:He bought a kilo. As you say, 22k may be right in terms of what it is actually worth, but street values are always calculated on the maximum possible value. A top drawer g in London, which is actually proper coke is 100 quid these days, that is a proper weighed g, which has high levels of purity, however a g (usually half a g, or even less) of shit 'pub grub' is 50 quid or even less, but hey, you get what you pay for. Believe me, I've put in the hours of research.
What has happened in the US and UK is that the purity has gone down dramatically, the average gram of coke seized in London, is now 20% pure, the rest commonly being Benzocaine, Boric Acid, and amphetamines.

He'll likely have been off his head and egged on by the 'seller'; didn't his lawyer go for entrapment?

I read he bought the coke from an undercover investigaterTheCobra wrote:"for buying $200 worth of coke which was worth $24,000 on the streets (1 kilo)"
This just makes no sense at all. How can you buy $200 worth of coke that is worth $24,000, please can you clarify what he actually bought?
If he bought a kilo of coke then that is possession with intent to supply and they don't piss about in USA with Class A's so I guess, harsh as the sentence is, you reap what you sow.

Jimmy smack!!
Your either old bill or have dabbled!!
I think they turn one kilo into two & by the time it gets distributed sold off to the last gram it's been stamped to bits

I remember when this was reported. james toney commented on it, and was very critical of nunn. toney, who'd gone on and on about being a high school drug dealer, in Donald mcrae's book 'dark trade' and who probably used this backstory to hype himself up as a bad arse during the early '90s vacuum left by Tyson.

could've been a superstar. seemed to lose his edge after great performances vs tate, kalambay, roldan & barkley.stevedoc wrote:i'm glad i live in england rather than america i'd be serving a 25 stretch there .... anyways nunn was stupid but 22 years for a bag of coke that's a lot . nunn was the president of the who needs him club
amazing, looking back, that nunn & also Donald curry (whom he fought) didn't go on to become great fighters, with the talent they had.

You can own a gun, but your not allowed to carry it on you.
Not much use then are they?
No they are not. You basically have to hope someone breaks into your home while you are there, and the gun is right next to you.
