Richard Dunn vs Roy 'Tiger' Williams Question.

Post by KOJOE90 »

On the 15/01/73 British Heavyweight Richard Dunn beat the feared and avoided Roy 'Tiger' Williams on points over eight rounds in London, England.

This was a good result for Dunn. Does anyone know anything about this fight?

Richard Dunn.

I don't know about this particular fight, but I do remember watching Dunn get a spanking from Cassius Clay when I was a young lad,I remember staying up late with my father to watch it,and thinking as a kid,"How did this guy get a shot at the title"?

You know I only actually remember two of Dunn's fights.

The defeat at the hands of Ali was well expected.

But when Joe Bugner came out of retirement and challenged him for his British title was shocking.

Possibly the most brutal beatings I've seen big Joe give anyone.

Considering the fight lasted about 60secs.

They must have had Tiger jet lagged, up to the eyeballs in horse tranquilisers and both arms tied behind his back (and the referee taking pot shots at him too) in order for Richard Dunn to scrape a split decision home town verdict over Tiger.

One of the most bizarre on paper results i can think off. Dunns chin was way too fragile to qualify even as 'glass'.

A friend of mine was at the Dunn vs Bugner fight. Just before the main event he popped out of the arena to grab a cup of Coffee and have a quick slash and when he returned to his seat the fight was all over. :o

Not very interesting, but true. :TU:

Note to the original poster: Obviously these guys know nothing about what you asked. Best bet would be to go to your local library and see if you can find the report on microfilmed newspapers.
