Groves is not a Matchroom fighter?

Post by DMA1987 »

His contract expired on the 31st September apparently, I found that to be very interesting. He is now technically a free agent.

Imagine FW pulling off his signing before the Froch fight, would add some major additional spice (as if it needed any!)

Got the info from the Hearn interview on IFL, see it below. Thoughts? (Sorry if its been done)

Bit of a discussion on it here

http://boxrec.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f ... &start=100

Probably worthy of it's own thread so I'll stick a couple of posts in from there to get it going.

Final round
Why did George say Hearn was not his promoter?
Expe
It was a 3 fight deal, this is his 4th fight, or 3rd if the fight in Germany doesn't count. Whatever happens, after this his deals up and I don't think he intends to resign. I'd expect to see Groves out again on the Haye-Fury undercard

Final round

Aah thanks Expe. So Eddie gave Geairge a couple of gimmes to look good in front of the Sky audience all geared toward the Froch PPV concluding exactly when the final bell tolls. It would be quite amusing if his plan went arse about tit.
Expe

The plan was definitely to match Froch and Groves, in the belief that Froch would come out victorious and if Groves chose to leave, he chose to leave. The problem for Hearn is that if Groves wins, he isn't tied down in any way and can go where he wants, which seems to have been Groves plan all along. Unusually, Warren didn't contest him leaving and said it was amicable, Groves and Booth saying they wanted to go in a different direction, that being a fight with Froch. If Groves wins, Booth will have outthought everyone again, he's been quiet the last couple of months, no ones heard from him and he's deleted his twitter account. I get the feeling he's going to turn up in the corner on the night, in an attempt to throw Froch off, if Groves goes onto win, he's won a world title, got a big payday while beating the best fighter in the country, leading to a potential rematch with DeGale, while being free of any promotional obligations.
I hope the quotings worked, if it hasn't this is going to look a mess.

I get the winning the title and taking it elsewhere. But it won't be for a massive payday will it? Not on BN, and I can't see him getting near to Sky if he tries fornicating Hearn. And he has Sky locked down for the next 3 years.

A fight with DeGale for a world title would sell big without sky, PPV can be done with primetime or channel 5 could televise the fight to the entire country and if they put enough money in, really hype the fight up, especially with the two not liking each other. Whatever happens, I'm sure Booth has some sort of masterplan that no one sees coming.

Edit: In fact, looking back, I meant the payday from the Froch fight as the massive payday.

I know you did mate. Channel 5 don't have loads of money to put into boxing, not the money it would take. He wont go from having the biggest result of the year to fighting for less money again. The result will make him huge in the boxing world. He will want to become a PPV fighter, which reasonably is Sky PPV. Traditionally how well does Primetime PPV do? Well enough?

Primetime doesn't do as well as Sky PPV, but it probably brings more in than a normal televised show. You just never know with Adam Booth, you have to expect the unexpected on a regular basis.

True that, he seems to be a very intelligent bloke, especially when it comes to strategy.

Weird that Matchroom have left it like this, I mean they are obviously supremely confident Froch will win, but you would have thought they woud have wanted to keep Groves regardless.

Eddies mantra of not forcing fighters to stay with him will bite him soon enough, maybe this will be the first.

I disagree, he has the best platform, Matchroom are also financially sound, and if a fighter doesn't like what he offers they can go and box somewhere else. Great attitude IMO.

It is a great attitude and it hasn't yet been tested in the real physical world we all abide in, actions speak louder than words.

Imagine FW pulling off his signing before the Froch fight, would add some major additional spice (as if it needed any!)

Got the info from the Hearn interview on IFL, see it below. Thoughts? (Sorry if its been done)

If the contract expiry date was truly 31st September, I doubt whether it was valid in the first place.

I can remember that rhyme from primary school, '30 days have September, April, June and November, all the rest have 31....'

I remember on the Bunce Boxing Hour that was broadcast just after Groves joined Matchroom. Warren was in the studio and suggested he is still on good terms with Groves and Booth. Warren went on to say he has agreed to speak with Groves again after September about his boxing future.

Plenty of people have been suggesting that Matchroom and SKY are backing their boy Froch for this fight. I wonder if we'll see Groves back on allegedly soon win lose or draw?

Why wouldn't it be valid? A contract is for the length of time set out in it.

Apologies for not spending every moment on this board in an act of serious contemplation.

I don't have a particular view on the topic as I am not privy to the private contracts between the parties involved and I try not to spend too much time in idle speculation.

Yet you still came on the thread. Not really idle speculation, his contract is up thats not in dispute, so he has to end up somewhere.
