Some of the moronic blood thirsty members on here who moan that fights are ended a little early by referees who are only looking out for fighters should hang their heads in shame.

Both guys took some big shots in that fight. Brings back home the dangers of our sport.
Hope he makes a full recovery.

I think you're being a bit silly there mate. People normally complain about stoppages that are unjustly stopped early. If you watched the fight last night, Abdusalamov's face was badly busted. It looked like his jaw was busted to begin with aslong as the rest of the facial damage.taffytoon wrote:Some of the moronic blood thirsty members on here who moan that fights are ended a little early by referees who are only looking out for fighters should hang their heads in shame.
Re: Abdusalamov in bad condition after Perez fight
Very sad story. Abdusalamov has always been too easy to hit though. He's incredibly offensively minded and doesnt watch out for what's coming back at him. Fun fighter to watch though. I hope he makes a full and speedy recovery and can even box again if that's what he wants to do.

I doubt he'll ever be in a ring again, Columbo.
Hope he pulls through OK.

Re: Abdusalamov in bad condition after Perez fight
It's very sad. Just saw a tweet that he's in a stable condition in ICU. It's a medically induced coma so it's more about limiting any damage to his brain vs him collapsing and falling into a coma. Still a serious situation though. He's a tough bugger though so fingers crossed he should be alright.Lenny Cravats wrote:I doubt he'll ever be in a ring again, Columbo.

Poor guy.

I think we all forget at times what a serious buisness this is!
The only place you can legally damage somebody!
Hope he will be ok

You ever boxed Tom? Most fights are hard and a couple of punches can change everything. better to stop 2 punches too soon than 1 punch too late.Groove Armada wrote:That is not a fair comment to make. This was a real hard fight for both men.

I hope he makes it healthy too.... But a lot of these posts are about offsetting guilt by people who love watching a dangerous and violent sport
Re: Abdusalamov in bad condition after Perez fight
I don't think guilt has to come into it. Fighters choose to fight, and danger is part of most sports to a greater or lesser degree.reggaereggae wrote:I hope he makes it healthy too.... But a lot of these posts are about offsetting guilt by people who love watching a dangerous and violent sport
But you'd be an odd person if you watch the sport and then don't acknowledge when something like this happens.
Re: Abdusalamov in bad condition after Perez fight
Its one of those things in this sport I know it can happen in any sport but you are one fight away from never fighting again or potentially waking up again. Every fighter gets in the ring knowing the risks and we acknowledge the bravery skill and effort that is exerted in the ring.

Jesus, I hope Abdusalamov makes it out ok. What a BRUTAL fight that was, I was feeling a bit sick watching it, 2 heavy handed heavyweights with chins too good for their own good, slamming away full tilt - to be honest, I was more worried about Mike as I watched it, as he was much smaller and taking some hellacious punches. So brave the both of them.
Re: Abdusalamov in bad condition after Perez fight
Really hope he makes a good recovery, we will never see him fight again but there is so much more to life for him providing he comes through strong and well.
God bless mate and keep going strong.

Re: Abdusalamov in bad condition after Perez fight
I was weirdly thinking his chin was too tough for his own good in there. Haven't seen heavyweights take it in turns to wallop each other non stop for 10 rounds through to that level of exhaustion for a long time.
Hope he makes a full recovery, always leaves you feeling a bit sick when this happens.

Re: Abdusalamov in bad condition after Perez fight
This is why there needs to be some provision for fighters who get injured during fights (or even in sparring) and cannot fight again. Hopefully Abdusalamov comes through this with no impairments, but his boxing career is without doubt over, unless that is he carries on in some backwater somewhere like Mexico or in Eastern Europe. So he should be able to claim some compensation, something at least to help him form a post boxing life, especially if he is left with some lasting damage that will affect him in day to day living. In many other sports and occupations participants and workers are covered against injury and even illness, yet boxing, which is basically geared towards causing injury, has nothing. Theres lots of things wrong with boxing at the moment but this for me is the biggest most appalling problem of all.
Sorry for the rant but just have been saying stuff like this for the last 20 odd years and theres still no change, if I didn't love boxing so much I would walk away but to do so now would just be hypocritical.

Re: Abdusalamov in bad condition after Perez fight
I hope he pulls through, what a hard punishing fight that was. Great action and what a tough man but his corner should have pulled him some rounds earlier or the ref should have said enough is enough.
Re: Abdusalamov in bad condition after Perez fight
By keeping him ventilated they can lower his blood pressure so as not to cause more damage, his body can also rest for a few days.columbo wrote:It's very sad. Re: Abdusalamov in bad condition after Perez fight
Reports on various news sites are saying he's suffered a stroke whilst in the coma. Not good news.
Also the family are now facing huge medical bills, he earnt $40,000 for the fight.
Sometimes its hard to love this sport.
