Offtopic: Roy Keane leaves Man Utd

Manchester United has today reached agreement with Roy Keane for Roy to leave the Club with immediate effect.

The agreement allows Roy to sign a long term deal with another club to enable him to secure his playing career beyond what would have been the end of his contract at United in the summer.

The Club has offered Roy a testimonial in recognition of his 12 ½ years at Old Trafford.

The Club thanks Roy for his major contribution to the Club during his years of service.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson said:

“Roy Keane has been a fantastic servant for Manchester United. The best midfield player in the world of his generation, he is already one of the great figures in our Club’s illustrious history. Roy has been central to the success of the Club in the last 12 ½ years and everyone at Old Trafford wishes him well in the rest of his career and beyond”

Chief Executive David Gill said:

“Roy has been a towering figure at the Club for over a decade. His dedication, talent and leadership have been qualities that have marked him out as one of the true greats. On behalf of everyone at the Club, we wish him every success in his future career.”

Roy Keane said:

“It has been a great honour and privilege for me to play for Manchester United for over 12 years. During my time at the Club I have been fortunate to play alongside some of the best players in the game and in front of the best supporters in the world. At all times I have endeavoured to do my best for the management and the team.

Whilst it is a sad day for me to leave such a great Club and Manager I believe that the time has now come for me to move on. After so many years, I will miss everyone at the Club.

I send my best wishes for the future to the management, players, staff and supporters of the Club.”

Nobody will sign him until he's back from injury. He doesn't need the money so I'd say he'll go to Celtic as player/coach without a crazy wage. Pity he won't make it for the Old Firm tomorrow afternoon! Also being linked with the Irish job and there was a flood of money for him on Betfair but I doubt very much he'd be given it right now - maybe after the next managers reign is over at the earliest.

Great player, but will he be able to settle at another club, he has very high standards of what players should be like. Would a manager want him in the team, knowing what Keanes like at shooting his mouth off when he doesn't like something.

One other question for you all, would Keane get in the starting line up of an all time Man Utd XI?

Yes, definitely. He had a bigger influence on the club than Cantona.

As much as i hate Utd , i still prefer them to Arsenal and Chelsea , who get banged on about all the time.

On Itv , they keep saying Arsenal can win the champions league...... thats tosh.

Keane - shocked , expect him to either become the manager of Ireland or go to Celtic.

I would say Keane in his prime was the absolute bedrock of Man united, a far better player than Beckham and far more important one. Beckham is one of the most overrated players of all time. Great passer of the ball yes, but he is predictable as he always does the same thing.

During Man United heyday, Keane was absolutely vital to the team, when he didn't play they often struggled.

Keane was streets ahead of beckham mate and still is. United losing arguably their best player but hey at least they still have miller to fill in for him! oh shit!

Dont know what the yanks are trying to do with this great club but they are letting it go to shit and keane has to many principles to sit and wait for it to go down around him. I reckon they are letting him go like this because they know he will tell the truth about whats happening behind teh scenes.

Thing is, Keane has been injured so much lately, and the club obviously wouldn't offer him any extension, so it makes sense for him to go where he will be appreciated more in the twilight of his career. He's still a top player, but he is physically clapped out. Keane was and is a titan of the game.

Interestingly, I don't think he will make a good manager, but would probably make an excellent coach.

even i dont watch much footie apart from bournemouth from what i have seen i would put pallister in rather than Stam, gary and bruce where great centre backs.

Keane was the centre of a GREAT United midfield - 1 of the best holding midfielders ever? Who had a great attacking game to boot. hes the key reason they won so many titles - now the old United Midfield Guard has finally been dismantled they won't a league title for years (unless they get Viera - whos hinted he'd go to United, but still they'd be playing catch up).

He easily makes any X1 side - the 60s players are very overated especially Best - best player in the world my ass he'd never have got into the Brazil side. And what was pace back then is ordinary today.

robson was miles better than keane, he was a one man army in a poor side whilst keane was just another cog, keane never had the influence people are making out - you could stick any decent midfielder with giggs, kanchelskis and a young paul ince and still have a title winning side.
schmeichel, parker, pallister, bruce, irwin, kanchelskis, ince, mcclair, giggs, cantona and hughes would have still won the league.
where as keane playing with the likes of remi moses, peter davenport, gary birtles and jesper olson would just look like an industrious player, he never had robsons ability to score goals with both head (check out the headers against france in the 82 world cup, superb) and feet. he never had the ability on the ball to carry a team like robson.
robson was as tough as keane too, he just never bought into his own hype and started mouthing off every two minutes trying to make out he was some sort of peoples hero.
like everything to do with man u, there`s a lot of hype and just cause robson aint got the medals dont mean he wasnt a good player.
