To be honest, I don't see it as that big a deal. He's injured, and the chances are he'd have been off in January anyway.

My last memory of Keane was sarcastically waving goodbye to the Saints fans on the last day of last season as we were relegated from the premiership.

No need for that whatsoever against a much smaller club and heartbroken fans (no other Utd player did it), and in the spirit of the game it was totally uncalled for (and unprovoked).

Saints reported him to the FA.

Complete tosser. Quit because he hasn't got what it takes any longer.

oh the juve game? where was keane when united got their arse kicked 4-0 by barca, or even leverkusen, or milan, or porto or every other time they went out the champions league?
united win the champions league once in their `glory years` but suddenly he`s one of the greatest midfielders ever?
graeme souness played in a side that went to five european cup finals in eight years and dominated the domestic league - and before you start on that champions league is harder to win rubbish dont forget when souness was the main man in midfield some of the greatest names in football history were playing in europe i.e maradona for barca / napoli, zico for roma, kempes for valencia, cruyff for barca, platini for st ettiene / juventus, paoulo rossi for juventus, ruminegger for bayern munich etc, etc. and dont forget when you won it you only qualified through the back door as arsenal won the league the previous year.
roy keane is a good player but i`ve seen too many great players over the years to call him a great and i certainly dont fall for sky`s revisionist history calling united the greatest side ever and all that theatre of dreams crap. poetic licence, like what you`re doing with the italy game, i suppose paul mcgrath and ray houghton did nothing whilst watching keane`s masterful display either. ireland won a tense 1-0, it was hardly a display worthy of the brazil 70 side.
by the way phil neal`s got a lot more medals than roy including four (yes four) european cup medals and i thought he was a good full back, not a great one. you`ve just been blinded by a few medals but i understand that, i too remember it took the greatest side on earth 26 years to win the title and i remember them in the second division with the likes of hill and greenhoff so i can understand united fans getting a bit carried away.

Come on Phil Neal was a great player, often flying up on the overlap and rarely ever taken on and beaten by Europe's finest wingers. You do not captain a European Cup winning team if you are not great.

phil neal was a good full back but he wasnt a great full back. michael robinson and craig johnston also won european cup medals against roma but i wouldnt call them great players either. thats my point medals arent everything. kenny daglish was my hero but i`m not that one eyed to say he was better than maradona just because he won a few european cups and diego didnt. is traore a liverpool great too? is kewell better than peter thompson just because he`s got a medal when thommo would often take four or five players on down the wing?
roy keane is a tough, hard working midfielder who had more to his game than the average holding player and did influence games in that side - but as individual`s steven gerrard and frank lampard have far more ability on the ball than roy ever had. when roy won a vital tackle it looked more vital when he gave the ball to a young giggs who went past two players and scored, when bryan robson won a similar tackle and gave it to albiston, authur often lost it and bryan had to go chasing again, doesnt mean he`s any less of a player. dont get me wrong roy`s a terrific player who i would have loved to have seen at liverpool but he couldnt have the influence that gerrard has had over liverpool (before alonso) because he`s not good enough on the ball. roy keane was a brilliant player within that side similar to neal for us, but he was far from a superbly talented pure footballer for me.
i`m sure the other 10 quality players had a teeny weeny say in united winning the title, are you saying that roy in the united side of the mid eighties would have won the title?
then again i am a liverpool fan, not the best people to write a c.v for roy.

Fair play mate. Im not a Utd fan, but a Celtic fan and jesus it was sweet when I was at Anfield a few years ago celebrating a great Uefa cup victory over your bhoys!

Its a purely subjective thing, but when you talk about Keane and compare him to players like Craig Johnson and Djimmy Traore the major difference is that Keane was at the heart of his team and the other "good" players that you mention were at the peripheral.

As the saying goes there are leaders and followers, Keano was a great leader - no doubt!

You are a clown to say Gerrard has more on-the-ball ability than Keano. Sure Gerrard likes the Hollywood pass and favours the long ball. But i think youll find Gerrard loses possession more often than Keano, a skill that although isnt appreciated in British football is something that great teams are built on. Out of the two players, who got the higher rating when Utd beat Liverpool at Anfield 6 weeks or so ago?

liverpool v united was 0-0 wasnt it? roy bust his foot in a tackle with sinama pongolle. i think you`re refferring to roys last decent game in a united shirt and that was a year ago when dudek gifted you a victory.
roy often went missing mate, its just that when he did the likes of beckham or cantona or more often than not scholes or hughes stepped up to the plate and won the game and you dont notice he`s having a quiet game or you do notice but simple things like his ten yard square passess get given `genius` status by clive `that night in barcelona` tyldsley and andy `oh no whats silvestre done!` gray.
when gerrard does go missing you tend to notice it because more often than not liverpool lose. gerrard has a lot more to his game than keane, thats just a fact. as does lampard. if they were in that united side of the mid 90`s they`d be raved about more than roy.
a lot of roy`s hype comes from the fact he played for man u, the darlings of the press and middle england, if he would have stayed at forest he`d just have been another decent irish player in the league - and not fit to lace liam brady`s boots either skillwise.

I agree the man is a selfish prat whose only interest is his himself and his ego... the way he ruined his countries world cup in 2002 was an ample display of what kind of man is Keane.
