The WBC has designated Vitali Klitschko as "WBC World Champion Emeritus," which gives him the right to become the immediate WBC mandatory official challenger if someday he would wish to come back to professional boxing.

Just when you thought they couldn't do anything more to try and f*ck up the sport.

That sucks. How long does this last, indefinitely?

So, he could say in 5 years time decide to make a come back cos he's short of a bit of cash and then jump straight into a title fight?

I'm going to quit my job today but I'm going to retain emeritus status here, so that if I want my job back in 5 years time I can walk right into the office and start up again.

Doing the honourable thing my arse! The guy is unfortunate enough to be a bit injury prone, it's not neccesarily his fault, but then it is no-one elses either. He's decided that it would be for the best if he now retires (oh, except if Lennox Lewis decides he wants a tear-up), so he should live with the decision. It's just sad that the WBC are so desperate that they feel the need to let the ex-top dog have an instant right to go bang up to the top of the pile again should he get itchy feet.

further proving why belts in boxing don't mean a fornicate any more. People pass them around, get stripped, move up/down, retire, and still have a shot at them while people like Winky Wright, who ahs earned a shot, can't get a damn chance. I'm not saying Taylor ducked Winky, I would've taken another Hopkins fight as well. But no one is giving the guy a shot at Middleweight.

Yeah, I think Hopkins is realizing in his old age that he ain't the topcat anymore. I seriously hope he loses this fight so we can end him vs Taylor and give Winky his shot. If anyone has earned a title shot, its definitely Wright.

I totally agree. Part of being a reigning champion, is remaining injury free it amazes me how often modern fighters seem to get injured. When you look at guys like Moore, Charles, Robinson etc, they fought all the time, and how often did they pull out through injury? What causes modern fighters to get injured so often, it's very strange, is it changed training methods, or is it the long layoffs between fights?

Vitali is a shil, he's consistently pissed me off with his whining about Lewis. It amazes me how he still wants a 41 year old and 300lb + Lewis to come out of a long retirement and fight him, to prove what, exactly? Next he'll be calling out Holmes and Ali.

The WBC are also as Mr Warren once eloquently put it 'Wankers' they are offering Vitali an olive branch, because they realise they have lost the chance to extract some sanctioning fees. I just wish Jose Sulaiman would fornicate off back under whichever rock in Mexico he crawled out of.

Maybe if Vitali was some long reigning champion. Then maybe I could understand this emeritus thing a bit more. What the hell has he done to warrant this. Other then whine about the Lewis fight.

I think the older fighters probably had as many injuries as the current lot. They just took it as part of the game and fought anyway.

WBC has just made Toney new mandatory... If I were Maskaev I would be really pissed right now. Going to Germany as the underdog and winning a points decisions and then get bypassed by a cheater...

, they voted and Toney got 21 votes, W Klitschko 5 and Maskaev 4. But the Toney Rahmann winner must face Maskaev because Klitschko is going after another belt.

Not sure it's hard to keep up with the heavyweights. I suppose Toney Vs Rahmann would be fair enough if Maskaev couldn't fight for six months or so but I suppose he could probably get in with Rahmann within 2-3 months after the Sam win.
