Re: martin murrary to face GGG
Hope it's true, can't wait. Can't do much worse then Macklin
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
Look forward to it if it's true. Got to give Murray props aswell because he could of waited for a shot at Barker which he very likely would of got. If anything, from a business perspective, this is probably a bit of a stupid move but i praise it as a fan of the sport.
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
Not sure if he keeps that guard of his up, his liver will need onions and a sprinkle of garlic after the GGG chef gets cooking.jessi wrote:Hope it's true, can't wait. Can't do much worse then Macklin
I am joking, I hope you win Martin.
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
if barker wins, then it will be murray vs barkermacaca wrote:Not sure if he keeps that guard of his up, his liver will need onions and a sprinkle of garlic after the GGG chef gets cooking.jessi wrote:Hope it's true, can't wait. Can't do much worse then Macklin

Re: martin murrary to face GGG
i had never seen murray fight with such a high guard, for an entire fight. i think it was a specific game plan for martinez.macaca wrote:Not sure if he keeps that guard of his up, his liver will need onions and a sprinkle of garlic after the GGG chef gets cooking.jessi wrote:Hope it's true, can't wait. and a very good game plan it was
i suspect if he was clever enough to pick a custom made game plan for martinez he will pick a different one for golovkin
and i'm sure (at least i hope) he realises that golovkin and martinez are very different fighters and a completely different approach is required.
if he sits behind that high guard all fight then it is only a waiting game for golovkin to break him down and find the hurtful punches.
my worry is, what game plan does murray use?
i don't see murray having the skills to execute a game plan that worries golovkin.
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
he doesn't have the power to deter him. standing and trading with him is out of the question.davie wrote:i had never seen murray fight with such a high guard, for an entire fight. i think it was a specific game plan for martinez.macaca wrote:Not sure if he keeps that guard of his up, his liver will need onions and a sprinkle of garlic after the GGG chef gets cooking.jessi wrote:Hope it's true, can't wait. and i dont think he is capable of being the slick boxer to keep out of range for 12 rounds
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
Since that Macklin fight boxers must have testicles the size of Mars if they get into the ring with Golovkin. You just know its going to hurt, respect to anybody brave enough.
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
Whether it's in Germany, Argentina, Oz or Monaco, the bloke doesn't turn down a fight does he? Hats off.
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
Apparently getting $500,000 (£312,000) for the fight.

Re: martin murrary to face GGG
Macklin was GGG's coming out party on the international scene, so to speak, but he has been a menace since boxing in major amateur tournaments.DMA1987 wrote:Since that Macklin fight boxers must have testicles the size of Mars if they get into the ring with Golovkin. kudos to Murray for taking the fight - as you say win, loss or draw he is in for a painful night..
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
he already has.ThereByTheGrace wrote:Come on Martin Murray, be the first to create the blueprint for GGG!
After the macklin fight, he was asked how do you beat golovkin and i'm sure he said you'd need a baseball bat.
that might work.
my concern is that murray is going to be another fighter who goes into a bout with golovkin scared and effectively beat before a punch is thrown
edit - scared might be the wrong term. but certainly not full of confidence
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
I dont think he has the punching power or skills to beat GGG anyway.davie wrote:he already has.ThereByTheGrace wrote:Come on Martin Murray, be the first to create the blueprint for GGG!

Re: martin murrary to face GGG
Murray might last three rounds.
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
i agree, but i'd still rather see someone go in there like stevens did, he looked like he believed he was up to the task and willing to try to win.columbo wrote:I dont think he has the punching power or skills to beat GGG anyway.davie wrote:he already has.ThereByTheGrace wrote:Come on Martin Murray, be the first to create the blueprint for GGG!

macklin on the other hand looked like a man willing to turn up, knowing the job was most likely beyond him.
and after the first couple of jabs landed he looked like he didn't even want to be there.
much of the bout wasn't fought defensively as a strategy, it was pure survival and not wanting to get hurt.
thats not a dig at macklin. ggg is a dangerous fighter and has an "aura" now. i think there are a few who will get in the ring beaten before a punch is thrown.
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
i fancy him to see the midpoint in the fight, he strikes me as a tough guy and is defensively soundRiddick Blowe wrote:Murray might last three rounds.
but he will get stopped, i'm fairly sure of that
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
I just cannot see this in any way, shape or form. GGG is the better boxer, the harder hitter and the more experienced. Going the distance with a Martinez in accelerated decline shouldn't blind people to how big an ask this is for Murray (who I respect immensely for his 'have gloves will travel' mentality).G0mez wrote:Murray can beat GGG
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
Murray but have a gameplan to win the fight and not just survive. Journeymen survive not contenders. I want murray to enter the ring and take it to golovkin and look for chinks in his armour.
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
An English guy during the 31st aniversary of the falkland wars, went to Argentina to face Martinez in Buenos Aires, I am sure he can handle the atmosphere of a neutral Monaco and a Kazakh.davie wrote:he already has.ThereByTheGrace wrote:Come on Martin Murray, be the first to create the blueprint for GGG!

Granted he knew what Sergio was gonna do, he knows what GGG is gonna do though. Like someone said the game plan is fundamental for Murray and he has shown he has the discipline to stick to it. He is not gonna knock GGG out is he. If he goes the distance, maybe the past history will be in some way a crazy advantage, then again who fornicating knows these days with the scoring.
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
Steven's landed flush left hooks on GGG which previously had been flattening people heavily. They seemed to hardly make an impression on GGG.rhino222 wrote:Murray but have a gameplan to win the fight and not just survive. Journeymen survive not contenders. i don't think it is the occasion or the nationality of his opponent that phazes him
i think it's the fact that ggg is a beast.
he is not the best in the sport today. but for me he is the scariest.
the guys who are better than him or more highly rated are either slick defensive fighters or simply nowhere near as heavy handed.
there is no one in boxing today that mixes the skill levels and accuracy of GGG with his consistant and seemingly effortless power.
Re: martin murrary to face GGG
I agree, what I mean is that nothing will phase Murray until the first bell, that is when the shot hits the fan or gets deflected!
