great boxers without punch
great boxers without punch
Usually ATG Boxers have some Kind of Punch. however some guys really can't crack an egg and still become great fighters.
I'm not talking about average punching guys like mayweather but really below average Punchers for their weight class.
which are the greatest fighters who couldn't Punch?

Locche, Loi, Rosenbloom & Loughran are the first that come to mind. I'm sure someone will say Pep & Whitaker but both of those guys could punch harder than they get credit for.
Re: great boxers without punch
good list. winky wright might qualify too. how about andre ward?SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Locche, Loi, Rosenbloom & Loughran are the first that come to mind. I'm sure someone will say Pep & Whitaker but both of those guys could punch harder than they get credit for.

I wouldn't consider Winky to be a great fighter. Ward has some pop.

Is Calzaghe a great boxer? If so...he lacked punch.

Yes he was, totally disagree that he had no power.BoxBuzz wrote:Is Calzaghe a great boxer? If so...he lacked punch.

From what I remember earlier in his career he had a pretty good punch but after all the hand injuries he just stopped putting much power into his shots.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Yes he was, totally disagree that he had no power.BoxBuzz wrote:Is Calzaghe a great boxer? If so...he lacked punch.

Yes his recent interview in Boxing Monthly confirms that by the end of his career his hands were chronic and he couldn't even spar. He was very much a puncher earlier in his career.p4p1 wrote:From what I remember earlier in his career he had a pretty good punch but after all the hand injuries he just stopped putting much power into his shots.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Yes he was, totally disagree that he had no power.BoxBuzz wrote:Is Calzaghe a great boxer? Miguel Canto.
Re: great boxers without punch
Gilberto Roman was a master, Miguel Lora was a joy to watch and didn't have a big punch.

Calzaghe had power & it was more in evidence during the early part of his career.BoxBuzz wrote:Is Calzaghe a great boxer? If so...he lacked punch.
A myriad of hands problems put paid to Calazaghe's power ambitions & led to that slappy style he favoured later on.

I've not seen either of these box though would like to.Vladimir5555 wrote:Myung Woo Yuh,Hilario Zapata

The great Kid Gavilan lacked a punch. It was the only thing missing in his arsenal.
The great Miguel Canto also lacked a punch.
Also the great Joe Brown.

Joey Archer.
Not a true great, but he was a skillful boxer.

Re: great boxers without punch
I would add to this list Pernell Whitaker as he was unable to stop
a good variety of his opponents.
Joey Maxim is another guy I can think of to include.

Ivan Calderon
Excellent boxer with excellent skills but no power. His fights were an absolute guarantee 12 rounds fight. But he was a great technician.

If we are talking about "great" fighters then Willie Pep, only 65 kos in 229 wins
Re: great boxers without punch
Tim Bradley
I don't see Mayweather getting any more KOs on his resume to be honest
Certainly not great but capable as fornicate, must be a P4P great in the least KO catagory Cesar Rene Cuenca

So in the more impressive part of his career, he didn't have a lot of power which qualifies him.
Re: great boxers without punch
Immediately thought of Rosenbloom
