Things casual fans say that irritate you ...
Really gets on my nerves when i hear people say
"That was in no way a Unanimous decision" or words to that effect ...
Makes no sense at all, all judges scored it to one winner, regardless of if it was close, they all agreed on the winner, thats why its unanimous, nothing to do with how close it was.

I have to agree and it's not just casual fans, I forever hear from coaches, "my boy didn't win that fight but it should have been a majority decision not unanimous!!" What you think the other boxer deserved to win the fight but because your boxer gave him a good fight then one of the judges should give him a win on their card?
It doesn't make sense to me, maybe someone can explain it so it does?

Casual, uninformed fan; "Tyson was just a bully. Just a slugger. Not a boxer"...
Re: Things casual fans say that irritate you ...
I'm always amazed how often people assume fighters in the lower weights don't punch hard enough to knock each other out.

in my experience casual fans blatantly don't score the fight round-by-round, then make their minds up at the end of the fight who 'won'.
Re: Things casual fans say that irritate you ...
muppets that from ringside shout 'hit him..........hit him' etc.

An Asian chap once said to me "If David Haye is so good why doesn't he fight Amir Khan?"

I have heard worse. I once heard Toney would stop Hagler in 6 or 7 rounds and that Kid Galahad was better than Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg.

Yeah but people like that don't really watch boxing and they wouldn't come onto a boxing forum.mickey1975 wrote:I have heard worse. I once heard Toney would stop Hagler in 6 or 7 rounds and that Kid Galahad was better than Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg.

I've always found that the casual, uninformed fan will see Tyson as completely unbeatable in his prime and the greatest p4p fighter in history, again, you know, whilst in his prime obviously...Rocky Balboa wrote:Casual, uninformed fan; "Tyson was just a bully. Just a slugger. Not a boxer"...
Some other things I've heard from casuals-
'Calzaghe is the best of all time, look at his record'
'Nigel Benn vs Tyson, wow, what a fight that would have been'
'Henry Cooper is Britians best ever heavyweight, he knocked down Ali'
Re: Things casual fans say that irritate you ...
Was watching one big fight with a room full of casuals once. Think it may have been Jim Watt's card showing on screen going into the 12th showing their man 4 points down. Throughout the 12th, they started screaming anytime their man landed with a shot 'that's one, there's another, oh that's three, four, that's five yyyaassss we won!' before jumping around hugging each other. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry
Re: Things casual fans say that irritate you ...
I remember a few years back a woman sitting behind us was screaming at her fighter non stop for 6 rounds to "throw the jab and follow with a straight right hand". Over and over. The kid she was shouting instructions to was a southpaw!
Re: Things casual fans say that irritate you ...
"This is a real trade fight" - heard that a lot recently at shows that weren't what you would call trade fights.
"Naz would have beaten Tyson, he'd be too quick" classic quote from when I was at school.

To be fair, it remains to be seen if Kid Galahad is better than Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg. As none of them have boxed each other, he very well could be.mickey1975 wrote:I have heard worse. The first quote is ridiculous. The second not so.mickey1975 wrote:I have heard worse. I once heard Toney would stop Hagler in 6 or 7 rounds and that Kid Galahad was better than Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg.

Actually, given Khan's height and frame...
Re: Things casual fans say that irritate you ...
Someone (who normally posts a lot of sense) said that Marciano had fat legs a couple of weeks ago, I laughed that much beer sprayed out of my nose.
Re: Things casual fans say that irritate you ...
Indeed. Though the second point could have been anything, I make it a matter of principle to disagree with Mickey at least twice a day.palooka wrote:DMA1987 wrote:The first quote is ridiculous. Sorry... when was Arnie ever a world champion?

Casual fans usually call a knockdown a knockout and claim tyson would have killed ali or ali and tyson are 1 and 2damianhucker1 wrote:Really gets on my nerves when i hear people say

Roy jones is a issue that bugs me!! He beat two greats in Hopkins & toney on there A games the man was supreme & a superstar.
I don't think I could name a fighter who would beat jones at his best .
Now I'll get in undated with who did he box at l . Heavy bla, bla, bla & Virgil was over the hill zzzzzzzzzz
