Gary Stretch will soon win an Oscar.
Just put SyFy channel on now (the time is currently 5pm) the acting is fantastic and the special effects amazing. I can see why Mr Stretch gets some big budget movies
'Megashark vs Crocosaurus'
A big round of applause please. This beat Downtown Abbey any day.

Re: Gary Stretch will soon win an Oscar.
He is Julia Roberts brother. I bet some of the films he's made have brought shame on the family. I was convinced that him being put in the Batman sequel was a pure act of mischief. You could literally have got an oscar winner in that role.Gazmac81 wrote:yea he was good in the dark night, think he was in a kickboxing film the first time i saw him , Best of the best???

Didn't Eric Roberts play a young boxing criminal in Runaway Train?
Re: Gary Stretch will soon win an Oscar.
Stretch ought to get some sort of award for keeping his face straight when he says his lines; I watched one of the films on the science fiction channel and it was very entertaining and I imagine they had a right laugh filming; Stretch had some amazing lines, I cracked out loud laughing a few times so it must have killed him saying them.

just seen a little bit of Sharkopus this evening. I cant understand how a film company get s the money to make that kind of shit. Surely it hasnt made any kind of profit. Who the hell would go to a cinema to watch 'Sharkopus'?
Re: Gary Stretch will soon win an Oscar.
They're not shown at the pictures but straight on the telly; it must be some sort of fiddle by the production/film company - they must have to spend so much money to get a grant etc etc. Have you seen Megasaurus and Sharknado? A fantastic way to spend 90 minutes - Megasaurus in particular must have had a special effects budget of a couple of hundred quid but they do well with it.mimmy123 wrote:just seen a little bit of Sharkopus this evening. Re: Gary Stretch will soon win an Oscar.
It is a small team of film makers who incredibly make good money from it. They are called The Asylum. They have sussed out how to shoot these things in a matter of days, digitally, and as you can tell, the effects are just done very basically, a few minutes spent on each one. The trade term for these movies is "mock-busters".mimmy123 wrote:just seen a little bit of Sharkopus this evening. I cant understand how a film company get s the money to make that kind of poo. I guess a lot of people could make them, but the team in question (they do loads, one after the other) has got contracts with the sci-fi channel and so far so good for both parties. Most of these productions use the same locations and extras, and are shot by the same people, using the same cameras, edited on the same computers, etc. Some of the effects - ie explosions - are recycled from film to film. If you watch one closely, you can really see the gaps, they will use the same set over and over again, just moving around the furniture and changing the camera angles.
They tend to look 12-18 months ahead at the upcoming big Hollywood blockbusters, and then rush out a crap version quickly, to cash in. Universal threatened to sue them over their rip off version of Battleship. They also rushed out a Thor movie because they knew a major Thor film was coming out. I think they also made "Titanic 2" which when you think about it really shouldn't have been made !!!

Eric Roberts by the 80"s was an academy awards nominated character actor.he is one of the most diverse role playing actors on the world today if not the foremost.JimJim2009 wrote:Eric Roberts went from those films to the oscar winning Batman sequel (2nd of the trilogy), talk about having an influential agent !Gazmac81 wrote:thats on Syfy quite a lot

Re: Gary Stretch will soon win an Oscar.
I hope they look after their returns, as it won't last. It's a gimmick sort of thing and others are crowding this niche market now. There was a novelty aspect to something like Megashark vs Crocosaurus but as a sub-genre it is now heavily diluted. They are basically just schedule gap-fillers. The only other additional box they tick is that it is new product to be screened, instead of old repeats.banjo wrote:The Asylum have never lost money on a film.mimmy123 wrote:just seen a little bit of Sharkopus this evening. A happy ending to their story would be if they could actually make something decent. Then again, that can be a lot harder than knocking out material that is deliberately sub-standard. There was a zombie film last year, called Zombie Apocalypse, which was poor, and the producers/distributers changed the title to Apocalypse Z, and changed the poster to mimic very closely the Brad Pitt zombie blockbuster, World War Z. It got released at the same time and I guess there is money to be made from punters who can't tell the difference......... until they've bought it, watched it, and realised it is bottom drawer stuff and not Hollywood product.
Re: Gary Stretch will soon win an Oscar.
I agree, the thing is though whenever I've been flicking throught the channels and seen one of these films I've had to watch them, they are just so bad they're good sort of thing, plus a couple of them did have Debbie Gibson and Tiffany in them and I used to have a thing for them when I was a teen.

I actually own a copy of the one with Gary Stretch in (poundland purchase), and I got the megapiranha one too, like you say, the curiosity value of these things sometimes drawns you in.banjo wrote:I agree, the thing is though whenever I've been flicking throught the channels and seen one of these films I've had to watch them, they are just so bad they're good sort of thing, plus a couple of them did have Debbie Gibson and Tiffany in them and I used to have a thing for them when I was a teen.
The one with Gary Stretch had pretty good production values EXCEPT for the awful special effects which just ruins everything and devalues everything else. He plays an Indiana Jones type character and I thought he did a really good job. Unless he went into it with his eyes open I bet he was gutted when he saw the final product.
