Best Frontman - Bunce vs Smith

Post by TopGun »

Tough one! Can't say both of them are amazing, both very different. Probably say Bunce may edge it with his energy? That said I will probably change my mind next week.

Bunce makes me chuckle, Smith makes me cringe especially when he gets all growly.

Bunce by a country mile!

Unlike Smith, he didn't 'get into boxing' because of the Holyfield/Bowe 'fan-man' incident.

X2.

This comparison is like comparing Bomber Harris with some twat who's good at flying remote control toys. In some way.

Its worth thinking about it in this way; could they do each other's jobs ?

Smith would flounder badly attempting to do what Bunce does with ease.

Smith makes me want to turn my TV over.

His constant friendly snipes at Johnny Nelson are beyond embarrassing. The same Johnny who was world champion whilst Adam just decided to run with boxers.

Very true. I know Bunce is a bit of a Marmite character but you cant deny his love for boxing

In fairness though I find Bunce is a bit of a lick arse whereas Adam Smith isn't afraid of asking a question that may be a little more direct or confrontational.

I voted for Bunce but he would be better to stop arse licking fighters in front of him.

Smiths facial expressions are hilarious, especially that scowl when he's trying to look tough.

Prefer Ringside to the boxing hour - I think its a tough call, both are very different with different roles.

Different styles for different broadcasters.

Sky want a more traditional and, dare I say, professional look to their broadcast and Smith fits that.

allegedly is a fan's broadcaster so a guy with fan-like enthusiasm and less of a straight face works.

I like both, but neither would be a good fit for each other's respective broadcaster. Bunce could only work on Sky if he had a straight forward presenter to bounce off.

Both clearly have great passion for the sport, and I agree that Smith is very cringeworthy on times, esp when he's got his 'besties forever' role going with Nelson.

Bunce seems very at home with boxers and the game in general. Bunce also talks people up in the game.

I prefer Bunce but Adam Smith is a nice contrast and does a good job. I wouldn't want two Bunceys so this is no knock on Adam.

They both have their good and bad points I think. When Bunce is presenting on a fight night he's good as he's energetic and he makes it a laugh. When he interviews fighters though he kisses arse way too much to me. He'll say something about fighter A to fighter B who he's interviewing and then when he interviews fighter A he'll say something negative about fighter B. I think when Smith is interviewing in the studio on a fight night he's good in a professional sense but on ringside he's bloody cringey like others have stated. Without meaning to kiss ass myself because he's on here, Ed Robinson is very good as he asks tough questions and really knows his stuff but gives praise when it's due aswell and doesnt try to be a "character". His weakness was his presenting as he hadnt done much but he's improved a lot with that. Andy Scott is an up and comer aswell who seems in the Robinson mould.

Can't stand Steve lilis

He's comes across as a Bunce wannabe and furthermore, I can't stand it that he harps on about boxers I have never heard of as if they were the good old days. And I hate his voice.

I like the fella Bunce was with on Setanta. Andy Kerr I think his name was?

The Setanta boxing hour was far better than allegedly or ringside. That said, ringside for me is getting better.

I don't know how some people can prefer Smith, Bunce is unique, off the cuff, knows his stuff and is hilarious at times.
