‘Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better’.....

Post by kal.majeed »

…..Inspired by ‘The Mosley Factor’ – a newly created 11-page, 15K plus word (including the now available ‘sticky notes’), fully illustrated/linked historical PDF file/document that encompasses over 120-year history of HW (and non-HW) paired cross-era bouts - for readers’ evaluation; not all matchup estimates are listed by the author because in a number of cases, the paper bouts will result in mismatches/overmatches.

Again, when first accessing the document, it will appear slightly distorted (images/text hazy or inconsistent and links not working); however, if one downloads (open/save file) the document, it will appear as intended and fully functional. Also, if a particular yellow ‘sticky note’ does not populate (after opening/saving file), click on a written part of the document and then scroll back over the ‘sticky note’ for the message.

Note: Most (if not nearly all) of the paired cross-era example choices within the document are glaringly (if not embarrassingly) obvious and simple – and that is the point (basically, in nearly all cross-era paired examples, it boils down to boxers who are defeated/stopped---by pugilists of note---at high/peak stages of their careers compared to being defeated/stopped (in relative/proportional degrees)---by pugilists of note---at a low/end stages of their careers).

Also, it is important to remember that this is not a career ranking system but paired bout-to-bout cross-era ability comparisons; hence, it is possible for a contender or short reigning titlist of one era (based upon a striking caliber matchup and performance) to be deemed superior in ability to a long reigning champion, hall-of-fame pugilist of another time period. The underlining purpose is to attain insight/understanding from an overall and objective point-of-view. As well, there are dozens of examples; thus, if there is not clarity in some examples, perhaps one will find clarity in other examples.

“It is as simple as something that no one knows.” – Jack Johnson

Key: [l] = left; [r] = right; [c] = center; [a] = above; [s] = standing; [d] = down (for the count);

[f] = in front; = behind.

Boxing terms: KO (10 count out); TKO (referee/doctor stoppage); RTD (boxer/corner retire between rounds);

UD (unanimous decision); MD (majority decision); SD (split decision); TD (technical decision); D (draw);

DQ (disqualify); NWS (newspaper decision); FLW (flyweight: 112 lbs.); BW (bantamweight: 118 lbs.);

FW (featherweight: 126 lbs.); LW (lightweight: 135 lbs.); WW (welterweight: 147 lbs.);

MW (middleweight: 160 lbs.); LHW (light-heavyweight: 175 lbs.); CW (cruiserweight: 190 lbs.);

HW (heavyweight: unlimited);

J/L (junior/light: 3-7 lbs. under the noted weight division); S (super: 3-8 lbs. over the noted weight division).

P.S.

This text is a showcase of what is found (via extensive research over three decades of diligence); it is not an opinion, it is historical fact.

Example: Floyd Mayweather Jr., as great as many (including himself) think that he is, if he matched against either of the Klitschko brothers (Vitali or Wladimir), he (Floyd Jr.) will likely get his head knocked off.

If one can grasp the reality of such an example (as a fact --- a reasonably/logically drawn substantive conclusion --- and not merely an opinion or speculation), then perhaps one is ready to proceed.

The shocking aspects of it all are that the declines are not subtle but striking – all one has to do is observe the “big picture” and not the fuss over minute or extraneous details.

There is an old saying…

“Can’t see the forest for the trees.”

Hopefully, it is self explanatory…..
