DAVID PRICE...
Re: DAVID PRICE...
Re: DAVID PRICE...
what a brilliant post. He's in that awkward place where has both specific and general weakness. Weak chin, weak jab, weak legs and if he improves any or all of those, it might be too his disadvantage. Just plenty of "careful" work in the gym. Oh I missed out his engine there. I'd say you're generally and specifically spot onTheCobra wrote:Agree he needs to strengthen up and bulk up a bit generally. I think he also has weak legs, needs to do a LOT of leg work to get those skinny legs stronger and try and bulk up to fill out his frame a bit.
Those things might help some of his weaknesses, but then there's the engine, he looks like he might not have the stamina for it either, so bulking up loads might affect that even more. He needs a lot of careful work.
Re: DAVID PRICE...
pardon me for sounding ignorant but I'm reading about his jab, his legs, his engine etc. Has he not been an amateur boxer for something like 15 years? I sort of thought boxing for 15 years gave you strong legs and arms and engines and jabs etc, no?
Re: DAVID PRICE...
Not questioning his arms at all, he clearly can dig and hurt people. There are a lot of other boxes though that he has question marks or crosses in rather than ticks. These include things such as skinny, weak looking legs for such a big man and also the way he's folded under pressure suggest, like Adam Booth said, that there could be some work on the mental side that might help things.n1ebf wrote:pardon me for sounding ignorant but I'm reading about his jab, his legs, his engine etc. Has he not been an amateur boxer for something like 15 years? It is always that balance with the physical things in the gym, put more bulk on, strengthen up, but how's your stamina? He's a tricky project for Booth.
Re: DAVID PRICE...
Him and Joshua could do with swapping weight in that regard lol. I think Joshua carries too much muscle on his frame. I think he would be more fluid and less rigid looking if he wasnt carrying as much muscle. You also have to wonder what his conditioning will be like later on in fights carrying all that.TheCobra wrote:Not questioning his arms at all, he clearly can dig and hurt people. Re: DAVID PRICE...
Personally, until I'd seen what he can squat with (weight-wise) I'd reserve judgement on how strong his legs are. You can look a bit wiry but still be very strong. Tactics/ gameplans can always be worked on but I think he's got less problems (certainly physical) than people think. I still think he'd put Tyson Fury away.TheCobra wrote:Not questioning his arms at all, he clearly can dig and hurt people. Re: DAVID PRICE...
he is a technically solid boxer but he fights too much like a small man throwing combinations from too close rather than staying out of range and using his jab.n1ebf wrote:pardon me for sounding ignorant but I'm reading about his jab, his legs, his engine etc. Has he not been an amateur boxer for something like 15 years? Re: DAVID PRICE...
Joshua mentioned in an iFilm interview that there was a much bigger financial offer on the table (Golden Boy probably?), but he felt like Matchroom was the better option for other reasons.columbo wrote:I dont think Joshua has made that much so far mate. I remember seeing an interview Eddie done with IFilm talking about signing Joshua and he was saying that his offer wasnt that great financially to sign with him but that it would work out better in the long. I think the days of Olympic gold medallists getting huge signing on fee's are gone.

Wasn't there a rumour AJ stuck it on price in sparring & got chinned?

Re: DAVID PRICE...
I thought the rumour was the other way. AJ stuck it on Price and chinned him. Mind you, I think it came from Fury! Can't be sure though. The only other AJ sparring rumour was when Fury himself said AJ gave him a rough time a couple of years ago.hurlock wrote:Wasn't there a rumour AJ stuck it on price in sparring & got chinned?

Re: DAVID PRICE...
Yes he does look extremely musclebound, not good for a fighter to be that bulked up - will severely deplete his stamina if he finds himself in drawn out fight - needs to shed some of that muscle if he wants to make the most of his potential, that's not natural size, that's weight training bulk.columbo wrote:Him and Joshua could do with swapping weight in that regard lol. Re: DAVID PRICE...
If he chooses to bulk further from 16'9 to over 17 stones then he risks Frank Bruno syndrome for sure. He would be wise to cap his bulk now.
Re: DAVID PRICE...
AJ will be on decent money. I have no idea how a deal would work with a boxer/promoter in terms of signing on fees, fight fees etc., but I know FW wrote in his column that he offered AJ a deal that would have seen him get £1m over a certain period. So, even if he's on less at Matchroom, he'll be on a good whack.
Re: DAVID PRICE...
we can look forward to price v sprott in germany i guess, michael likes his bratwursts and is vulnerable against the best but a good yardstick against the potentials. coming off the back of prizefighter victory, witnessed by price, i think i could be onto a winner with my match up.
Re: DAVID PRICE...
Wonder how much Booth had to do with the move to Sauerland - he's quite cosy with Kalle and co - ever since Haye fought Valuev. Its makes real sense though for Price. He can box without too much pressure, further down the card on a show in Europe and focus on rebuilding his career.
Sauerland know what they are doing and have a number of top heavy's on their book.
Good to see that Matchroom isn't the be all and end all.
