Plain ,unbiased ,speaking !!

Post by dalcumly »

There can be no disputing that the WORLD SUPER MIDDLEWEIGHT CHAMPION is Andre Ward. It is highly likely that his number one contender is Carl Froch.

Therefore , next week's fight between Froch and Groves is a very good BRITISH TITLE fight ,with Groves possibly ,just possibly, being on the fringes of the world top ten.

Reluctantly I will probably take up the PPV because I want to watch a good night of boxing on the telly. Sadly I'll have to listen to presenters and commentators who are employed by the TV company and therefore in their own best interests will say nothing to diminish either the fight or the promotion regardless of what happens.

It's the way of the world that in order to sell this BRITISH event we have to suffer 5 nights of primetime viewing next week to make sure as many people as possible take up the PPV offer. I don't blame SKY, that's what you've got to do to sell your product.

But us boxing fans know that this fight, in a bygone decade, would have been for the Lonsdale Belt ,and possibly a European title thrown in.
This is not criticise Carl Froch in the slightest, I would have taken this easy fight as well while waiting for Ward to move on , or agree to come over here. And ,good luck to Groves, he'll never have a better pay day, and he'll quickly get over the pain and humiliation of a quick wipe out.

I think that's a little harsh on Froch to be fair. I know he's not slick but he's incredibly tough, has heavy hands and a stiff jab and is a 3 time world champ in a very tough division.

The PPV debate is a strange one IMO. I can understand slightly why people my complain a little, but at the end of the day, if you want to watch it, buy tickets for the fight or buy the PPV, If you don't then don't bother.

If you're against paying the £15 on top of what you already pay for Sky/Cable then there's either chip in with friends, (could end up costing you couple of quid) or find a pub/bar that's showing it (I'm sure there's plenty).

I don't begrudge either fighter the payday its ppv or would not happen.
Looking back serves no purpose as no terrestrial broadcaster is backing our sport anymore I take channel 5 into account but they are playing at it.
Sky and Matchroom have monopolised boxing in the uk and set the rules.
We pay or we dont see its how it is for now.

Given that Froch you have Froch at number 2 rightly IMO
Will Groves attain that spot if he causes the upset?
I don't think he will win BTW

I do; he's 11 years younger, fresher and has a very good punch; Froch has experience over Groves and that's it; Carl has looked to be genuinely upset at not being afforded 'respect' by Groves and it will play into Groves hands. i only bet what I can afford to lose so I'm doing a £20 double on Manny and Groves to win.

The fact that Froch dropped Groves in sparring may not pan out as imagined, Groves will be aware and Froch may imagine any time he lands it's lights out.

there is no disputing that andre ward is the best super middlewieght and had we lived in a boxing utopia with only 1 world champion per wieght division, then that world champion would undoubtably have been andre ward.......

until he went 12 calendar months without defending it and was stripped of the title and removed from the rankings through inactivity

at which point the no1 ranked supermiddlewieght in the world, european champion carl froch, would have been forced to fight the next best contender.
with froch having beaten just about everyone else of note in the division and steiglist knocking back the fight as he refused to leave germany gearge groves of england was chosen to fight for the supermiddlewieght world title.

it would be a superfight, well worthy of PPV

To be fair you don't have to watch any of the build up shows next week if you don't fancy them.

Wow, never thought of it like that! How refreshing it is to finally find a poster on a boxing forum who isn't afraid to speak up! To hell with consequences, there is a new sherif in town!

And so on and so on

Now to change the topic completely:
Can you believe that Benn- Eubank for the WBO world title took place 23 years ago?
