Was tweeting about this last night. People try and pick negatives with Joshua but I'm struggling not to get excited. He's been boxing just over 4 years and look how good he is. He's obviously going to have power being that well built but he also has speed and doesn't look overly clumsy compared to many HW's out there right now. The most impressive thing however is his mentality. Seems to have the right mindset to learn and go as far as his abilities will let him.

His technique is still very stiff, he has the upright straight back style which I hate in fighters and at any sort of decent level will be their undoing (same for Kell Brook), we haven't even seen his defence yet or him taking a shot, and I feel with the shots he is landing there isn't the power behind them that there should be, doesn't seem to have the snap there.
But he is improving and only starting out in the pro's so not getting to excited yet but maybe in a few fights

Re: Anthony Joshua vs Hughie Fury
Joshua of course. As to what Hughie will be I am worried that he is being ruined by being pushed too young. Joshua on the other hand is ready to make good progress.
Re: Anthony Joshua vs Hughie Fury
Yeah, give him a year and he beats the bigger one too.Riddick Blowe wrote:Joshua would obliterate the clumsy Fury.

I think he has talent but he still looks tight/rigid to me in his movement! I dont know if it's because all the muscle he's carrying on his frame or what. Anyway if you look at say how Lewis used to move about in the ring he looked more relaxed.
Re: Anthony Joshua vs Hughie Fury
I think last night was the first signs of AJ starting to look scary. The guy he was fighting was a chump but Joshua wasnt even in first gear and showed a few moments of frightening power.

Same was said about David Price till he got touched on the chin!AcademyCC wrote:I think last night was the first signs of AJ starting to look scary. The guy he was fighting was a chump but Joshua wasnt even in first gear and showed a few moments of frightening power.
I dont think his punches are "frightening" his movement, although stilk tense and rigid, create goid openings, but he lacks bite 8n the shots.
hopefully that will come. But i still maintain your never going to be a world champ with a straight upright stance

Re: Anthony Joshua vs Hughie Fury
I do worry a bit about Joshua's chin, he's 6'6 and heavily muscled around the back and shoulders, but he weighs around 16 1/2 stone, so there must be somewhere that's a bit underdeveloped, if it's his legs, then he's in for a shock when the big punches land.

Not always. Good chins come in all shapes and sizes. I have seen fighters with tree trunk legs with glass chins.expe wrote:I do worry a bit about Joshua's chin, he's 6'6 and heavily muscled around the back and shoulders, but he weighs around 16 1/2 stone, so there must be somewhere that's a bit underdeveloped, if it's his legs, then he's in for a shock when the big punches land.
Joshua was stopped a couple of times in the ams though, so that could be a worry at some stage.

I've heard that a few times on here, but who was he stopped by?lillywhite14 wrote:Not always. Good chins come in all shapes and sizes. So far as I can gather his record 34-3, he lost to Whyte on points (he was knocked down) and then one of the the other losses would have been on points to Majidov at the Worlds. So he can only have been stopped once at most (in the other loss).
As for his chin, we'll just have to wait and see. I thought he was stunned for a moment by Majidov, but MM seems a bit of a puncher, no idea about the nature of the Whyte KD.

Re: Anthony Joshua vs Hughie Fury
Mihai Nistor stopped him when Joshua was leading in the Europeans in 2011. I could only find the report and have not seen the footage, says he was pulled out by the corner after a couple of standing counts.
I have no idea regarding the Whyte stoppage either.
Doesn't sound like too much to worry about seeing as we see him taking heavy punches off the best amateurs in the world in the World Championships and the Olympics. I'm sure we all remember watching Price getting bounced off the canvas against Cammarelle in Beijing and a few will remember other fights involving him where he was getting dropped etc
Won't know until he gets hit as a pro though, obviously.

Like I say Whyte was a knockdown rather than a stoppage.
