Mike Tyson 1984 Amateur record question

Checking Mike Tyson's Amateur boxing record for 1984 it shows
he won the 1984 National Golden Gloves but does not
show any regional title wins for that year ? I thought you had to win
a regional title before you could compete in the Nationals, (I could be wrong).
I suspect the 1984 New York Daily News Golden Gloves would
of been needed first.
