Billy Nelson - Gives us your opinion on Froch/Groves
Billy I know you are on here often and it's great you contribute. So I hope you can give us your views on for Saturdays fight.
You always give us your honest opinions.
I for one stand in a small group of people who think Groves has the skills to out box Carl. Over to you.....

I tend to agree with you top gun,I think George has the nessasary skills to be very problematic for Carl.TopGun wrote:Billy I know you are on here often and it's great you contribute. So I hope you can give us your views on for Saturdays fight.

There's no doubt George has the quicker hands and better movement and IMO as long ha he can keep it all together he could win this fight on points.
As we've seen before Carl's defence is his weakness but he's got a great jaw to fall back on.
Really looking forward to this one, good luck to both guys

Cheers Billy!
Re: Billy Nelson - Gives us your opinion on Froch/Groves
Good post Billy and I agree with you; I think Froch will struggle to land hard and Groves will potshot a bit, I also think the age difference will be a significant factor - Hopkins and Mayweather aside boxing is a young mans sport. I can imagine a fair bit of talking between the 2 and Groves has got into Froch' mind already. I also think that if Carl comes lumbering in or throws wild he woll get caught with a very big punch. I reckon Groves hits as hard as anyone in the division and he is pretty fast. Groves wins this one for me.billy nelson wrote:I tend to agree with you top gun,I think George has the nessasary skills to be very problematic for Carl.TopGun wrote:Billy I know you are on here often and it's great you contribute. Re: Billy Nelson - Gives us your opinion on Froch/Groves
Kessler and Froch were made for each other neither taking a backward step, this fight will be so different, it may just expose Carl's lack of speed coz he's got everything else
Re: Billy Nelson - Gives us your opinion on Froch/Groves
I still see Groves's as being very much in the Bute mould. Both have very similar hand and foot speed. Both can punch *Bute actually had a slightly higher KO percentage going into the Froch fight than Groves does* and both have decent boxing ability and counter punching nous. However in all the categories forementioned aside from punching power, Ward and Dirrell are superior. Finally the most important similarity is that they both have questionable punch resistance and that's what I think will decide the fight. I wouldnt be shocked if Groves's does win but it will all depend on his chin IMO.
Re: Billy Nelson - Gives us your opinion on Froch/Groves
I don't think his chin will come into it so much; because he got dropped by Froch sparring (Groves an 8 bout novice and Froch a former world champion with 28 bouts and 8 years as a pro) and by Kenny Anderson doesn't mean he's glass jawed and it may well mean he's learnt the lesson of not leaving his chin there to be hit. I think he'll have Froch reaching and getting frustrated.
Re: Billy Nelson - Gives us your opinion on Froch/Groves
Who as Groves boxed any where near Froch class
For me Froch Ko
Re: Billy Nelson - Gives us your opinion on Froch/Groves
He was knocked out on a fair few occasions as an amateur aswell though wasnt he? Didnt Travis Dickinson knock him out in a round or something? If so Dickinson hasnt shown himself to be the biggest punching pro. Smith also buzzed him pretty good at the end of the first round and Sierra seemed to rock him momentarily aswell.palooka wrote:I don't think his chin will come into it so much; because he got dropped by Froch sparring (Groves an 8 bout novice and Froch a former world champion with 28 bouts and 8 years as a pro) and by Kenny Anderson doesn't mean he's glass jawed and it may well mean he's learnt the lesson of not leaving his chin there to be hit. Phil, did Tony ever get to spar Groves during his short stint as a pro or even as amateur for that matter?phil5555 wrote:Who as Groves boxed any where near Froch classFor me Froch Ko
Re: Billy Nelson - Gives us your opinion on Froch/Groves
I think the Travis knockout was when he was 15 years old, Smith didn't hurt him badly (didn't Smith claim he'd hurt his hand and that was how Groves was able to stop him?)columbo wrote:He was knocked out on a fair few occasions as an amateur aswell though wasnt he? Froch has been dropped and hurt lets not forget and it's more likely to me that Groves is able to hit Froch hard than Froch will catch Groves.

Re: Billy Nelson - Gives us your opinion on Froch/Groves
Seems to be a turn in the tide!! I have said Groves all along!! He is too smart for Froch, who in honesty does not have the same skills as Groves. I expect a very tough night for Froch and believe his heart will rule his head.. He will be behind on the scorecards and leave himself wide open to a big counter in the late rounds and Groves will score a stoppage win. 9th round onwards I believe

People regarded Lucian Bute as being fast, Carl matched him.

I really think George can do it to.... however i chickened out when it came to picking the winner on the current scene and went for carl.. but i to think George definitely has the skills to trouble Froch

Froch wins a close points decison i reckon
Groves coming out with a lot of credit about his chin and durability
I,d put my house on George beating Stieglitz or Bika but Carl? nah i reckon its came 12 months too soon
It,s gonna live up to expectations too me thinks

Re: Billy Nelson - Gives us your opinion on Froch/Groves
It amazes me that so many people believe Groves will give Froch all he can handle when they meet, I just dont see it. Personally, I think he's getting pasted, and early. Froch will walk through him. If Groves see's the 6th round that in itself will be a victory for him IMO.

Re: Billy Nelson - Gives us your opinion on Froch/Groves
I really can't see anything other than a Froch ko for a couple of basic reasons:
1) Groves has not fought anyone at the level of Froch yet has been hurt & dropped. His only really live opponent was DeGale and he just about got by. We've now seen DeGale struggle with lesser fighters
2) Froch has faced better versions of the style of fighter that Groves will be. He will not present anything new for Froch and he will figure him out easily, find a way to land a lot of punches and stop him.
The only thing that i'm not sure of is whether Froch is going to stop him via really having him hurt or cutting him up

Im sticking to my guns on this one and nothing has made me have even the slightest doubt that this fight will be anything other than a carbon copy of the bute fight.
Re: Billy Nelson - Gives us your opinion on Froch/Groves
I have to disagree Billy. He was buoyed by a few thousand Romanians, was full of beans and the first round was split. Carl stayed with him and then pulled the trigger and he was damaged. Then Froch ambushed him and game over.billy nelson wrote:Bute simply froze in the night big timeG0mez wrote:People regarded Lucian Bute as being fast, Carl matched him.
On the subject of Bute, when Groves set out to make a massive statement on the Kessler undercard, against a fairly mediocre opponent in Noe Gonzales - their fight lasted the same length as Froch vs Bute did. Their respective quality is not even comparable.

froch is likely still in his prime,i can`t see groves lasting more than five rounds,he`s never been in with anyone of froch`s calibre or power

I agree, I think Froch is going to come out hard like he did against Bute, and dismantle him.Finn wrote:Im sticking to my guns on this one and nothing has made me have even the slightest doubt that this fight will be anything other than a carbon copy of the bute fight.
Re: Billy Nelson - Gives us your opinion on Froch/Groves
If Froch comes out hard like he did Against Bute he will play right in Groves's hands. When will people realise Bute was very highly hyped and is nothing like Groves. If Froch tries to push forward he will get picked off and will be picking himself up from the canvass. Froch has got to try and box Groves and hope he can get to him late on. I think Groves will have a game plan and that will be enough to see him through. Although it is boxing and anything can happenjamesmcdonnell wrote:I agree, I think Froch is going to come out hard like he did against Bute, and dismantle him.Finn wrote:Im sticking to my guns on this one and nothing has made me have even the slightest doubt that this fight will be anything other than a carbon copy of the bute fight.
