I think every person that watches that will see something different; Groves doesn't look to have bottled it at all and when he finally got wound up himself he stepped away. Froch looks taller than him and a bit bigger though it may be deceptive; Groves makes a point that Froch looks to Eddie quite often, Groves has made some good points. Froch isn't much better than DeGale with the breath thing, it's no better than ugly kid.
Re: Froch-Groves... real tasty head to head
Man against boy. From looking at that exchange, I think Groves already knows it, but if not, he'll find out early doors. Badly out of his depth.

Talk about rubbing it in!
Re: Froch-Groves... real tasty head to head
I wonder if his breath really stinks and did he ask someone for reassurance that it didn't, after the first jibe? :P

If I were Groves I'd have said I'd just gone down on Froch' bird.

It's not mastermind - he doesn't need to be - yes Froch talked over him, but he dominated proceedings, which I am sure is what he wanted.palooka wrote:Froch spoke over the top of him and didn't really come up for air.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Often the way, all the swagger and Braggadoccio evaporates as the fight draws near. Groves looked frightened and Froch self-assured
Of course, all will be revealed on the night, but Groves seemed very meek there, as dawn approaches, the condemned man realises the enormity of what he's facing and all the fears begin to surface.
He's boxing a man he's chosen to face, he could have gone for one of the other champions, Froch is upset that Groves 'does not know his place' - he is a control freak and a bit of a bully. He didn't want to reply when Groves pulled him up about comments Froch had made v Kessler 2; Froch is not a mental giant.
As I said, all this pre fight stuff doesn't necessarily reveal anything, it's how you cope when the fists, not words, start flying. When Carl said 'You're getting flattened' i have to say, it carried real conviction and he does look like he's well up for punishing groves in the ring (ooooerr).

Which is exactly how Groves wants him to feel I imagine.

Groves is literally toying with Froch. He makes little comments. 100% Groves isn't scared one bit he believes exactly what he's saying. It's all mind games. He let Froch look stupid all on his own there. He's proper in Froch's head. Will this make a difference I don't know

Neither of them are scared, they are experienced professional fighters - the question mark is whether Groves has anything to offer if and when it starts turning into a rough night. It's one thing squeezing past Degale, or beating a 43 year old Johnson to the punch, another stopping Froch in his tracks.daviddee wrote:Groves is literally toying with Froch. My initial reaction when this fight was announced was that this was a bridge too far for Groves at this stage of his career, even if he does go on to great things, but cometh the hour cometh the man, and it may just be he has the tools and the plan to win - I look forward to finding out, for now, I'm going with my gut on this one, Froch inside of 9 rounds.

I've got all the respect in the world for Froch but why does he try to come across as some cultured intellectual? I'll never forget him prior to the Abraham fight "Like the legend Bruce Lee once said, every action will have a reaction"
How do you mix up Newton and Bruce Lee?

Re: Froch-Groves final press conference
It seems that many of you brits seriously believes that groves has a fair shot here. Ive seen a couple of fights with groves and i see froch finishing groves with easy within 5. Just plain and simple beat down ala bute.
What makes you think groves has a chance. I saw both jhonson fights and it wasnt the same jhonson that fought groves that fought froch in ssix ! Degeale havent proven to be that good either. Is it just because you dislike froch that you give groves credit or do you really see him have a realistic shot ?

Bit of a random one this.
I was really looking forward to watching the fight on Saturday night, but it turns out i've got to work and am stuck in Marseille.
Does anybody know if the fight is being shown in France? Or know if i'd be able to catch it in an Irish/English themed pub?
Cheers if anybody can help. Froch by stoppage, by the way.

Re: Froch-Groves final press conference
What we can be sure of is this; if Groves can't hurt or stop Froch early, he's going to get taken into much deeper water than he's ever been in. Then we'll learn whether he can swim.

I was in France during the Haye v Wlad fight - couldn't find it on TV anywhereWebbo911 wrote:Bit of a random one this.

In the end, used the BBC website for updates on my phone, cost me about £12
Re: Froch-Groves final press conference
Wow, £12 worth of "Klitschko throws a jab. Haye on the back foot here. Haye feints with the lead right, but doesn't move in after it. The fighters circle each other". That must have been galling!rossij8 wrote:I was in France during the Haye v Wlad fight - couldn't find it on TV anywhereWebbo911 wrote:Bit of a random one this.

Re: Froch-Groves final press conference
Actually in Boxing News yesterday Kessler talks about sparring Groves and said, in typical understated fashion, that he (Kessler) "did well against him" (Groves) and picks Carl to win the fight. I read that as Kessler politely saying he probably handled Groves in sparring quite well.palooka wrote:Groves must have done very well v Kessler in the spars - he must have dominated for him to be this confident or Kessler must have said something about his power.
The build up has been very well done but it's the same for me: Klitschko was always gonna beat Haye, Mayweather was always gonna beat Hatton. They've sold it, but I cannot see a win for Groves at all.
I tried to find Grove's last fight on Youtube (I actually was there and watched it live) because I remember thinking it took him too long to get the guy- a middleweight originally I think- out of there, and wanted to re assess his form, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I could only find the fight before that with the little fat bloke who just covers up and doesn't throw a punch and gets stopped on his feet in the second. I also watched Groves Degale again, even though it's old, and couldn't get through to the end as it was so boring. It's funny, I went to that fight as well and on the night it was incredibly exciting but the reality is Groves was very negative and never troubled Degale with his punches, despite supposedly being this hard punching banger, and was hurt several times by Degale, who isn't really that aggressive. I know Groves got Sierra out of there in impressive fashion after a real gut check with the cut and Paul Smith too, but didn't Smith hurt Groves before that? I honestly can't see anything but a stoppage win for Carl. I might even put a bet on, and I hardly ever gamble. I bet on Chisora Haye (Haye KO 5) and won that, and I bet on Marquez Pacman (Marquez on points) lost that bet 'cos Marquez KO'd him, but I knew he was going to win.
I think he gets him out of there before the sixth. It's just picking the round.

Cheers mate. Watching it now.
Re: Froch-Groves final press conference
No worries. A lot of the guys Groves has had success against dont really use the jab to be honest. Alcoba just came forward really with a high guard and Groves could pick him off at will. Same goes for the small fat geezer on youtube that you mentioned lol.clopixolacuphase wrote:Cheers mate. Watching it now.
