Pound-for-pound best Floyd Mayweather Jr. (34-0, 23KOs) made his welterweight debut a successful one with a sixth round knockout over two-time former 140lb. champion Sharmba Mitchell (56-4, 30 KOs) Saturday night at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon. After dominating the first two rounds, Mayweather dropped Mitchell with a right hand in round three. Floyd continued to punish Mitchell finally dropping him with a body shot in round six. Referee Richard Steele stopped the slaughter at 2:05.

Suprise, su-fornicating-prise. Mitchell got his pay day, Mayweather got his easy introdiction to the 147 lb division. I hate this shit. Mayweather should be fighting the best at 140 before moving up. It's a disgrace that HBO will payroll this sort of farce. I'm not saying he will lose but the guy needs to fight another 140 lb champions before moving up in weight. Also I see both Mayweather and Merchant spoke about fuure fights.... but not about Margartito (who I think is over-rated but still big and relentless enough to give the pretty boy a very hard time). What a load of shit. HBO are killling boxing. PPV, yeah right. I'm saying all this at 5:10am just after arriving back after being dressed up as BATMAN (and winning the best dressed award) at a party. fornicate PBF, he's nothing more than Roy Jones the second and there will be no (or at least limited) respect from me unless he starts taking real challenges and risks.

Ummm bit harsh there. Okay Mitchell might not be at the top of the game, but is a former two time world champion.

And not taking risks..... Three words.... Jose Luis Castillo..... another two words....... Deigo Corrales...... Angel Manfredy. He has in the past beaten the best, the only devision he hasn't done that in was at 140 lbs and give him a chance.

Even BBC sport said that he would only fight Hatton over here for 20 mill!

Yeah deserves a chance tobe judged in 140 but why after Gatti move up straight away instead of beating the best there first?

I see Mayweather has shot straight to number one in the Boxrec welterweight rankings which is a joke seen as how the division has an undisputed champion in Judah.
I get the feeling Mayweather isn't quite confident enough of his power or strength going so high through the weight divisions to take on the best. Having started at super feather there must be a big difference physically between him and the likes of hatton cotto tszyu judah margarito who are all good enough to exploit it.

Wonder if Boxrec rankings does have someone changing them because they put Floyd at no 1 on 140 then as soon as he moved up he's no 1 there! Now Castillo is at No 1 there!

I completely agree with that (minus the batman bit

). I am confident Floyd will take on the best but this fight was pointless, Mitchell never had a prayer of winning.

I am a massive Mayweather fan but i just wish he would stay at Light Welterweight and fight the best such as Hatton and Cotto before embarking on this mission up the weights, I am shocked by the consensus that he has fought weak fighters, in the Mirror Barry McGuigan pointed to "clever match making" having taken Mayweather so far, ridiculous! He beat Castillo twice, Corrales, Genaro Hernandez, Manfredy and easily strolled past guys like Ndou, Jesus Chavez, DeMarcus Corley (legs were rocked once maybe, he is human after all) and he didn't just beat Gatti but he beat him up in a flawless performance. I am shocked, fair enough the Mitchell match up was a mistake and PPV was a joke but it wasn't like he fought Gary Beardsley...Mitchell is at least a name and former world class contender.
