Evander holyfield says that bowe hit him the hardest but yet tubbs who also fought bowe says that tyson hit him the hardest .
I don't agree. Just because Tyson had a lot of KO's doesn't mean he necessarily punches harder than someone else with less KO's. Tysons hand speed was a major factor, its normally the punches you don't see that knock you out and you are unlikely to remember being knocked out to comment on the punch that done it.

If tyson didnt hit harder than weaver, bowe, cooney etc then how come tysons punches were much louder at the point of impact . Commentators use to say that tyson punches made more noise than any other fighter when they connected . The level of noise = force on impact which = power .
I never said Tyson didn't hit harder than Weaver etc...I'm only quoting what some of his opponents said. Tyson obviously can punch but his hand speed and combination punching was a major factor. Single punch power I think Shavers and Foreman and maybe others punch harder.

Thomas and Holmes say they were hot harder by other fighters maybe the case. What point would they be making by saying Tyson wasn't the hardest puncher? Surely it would be better saying Tyson was the hardest and that would excuse them being KO'ed.

I think Tyson was the best puncher ever!
Some of his opponents said that his punch is overrated , but they only say that , becouse tyson destroyed them!!

I have seen EVERY Tyson-Fight and no other fighter impressed me with his punching-power.

Here are some great punches from Tyson:

Botha ( Stewart called it one of the perfect punches in boxing history)
Etinne ( Wooooow)
Jack Johnson ( he broke his jaw with that punch) and so on......

And there were many fighters who said that ty<son punches extremly hard.

Frank Bruno ( "He has nuklear-energie in both hands!") , Spinks and Francis (" I have never been hit that hard!") , Savarese ( "The punch was unbeleaveble!") , William Hosea , who lied on the floor and cried loudly ( " This motherfucker hits like a sledge hammer!") or Eddie Richardson after the repoter asked him , if he was ever hit as hard as Tyson did:" Yes , one year ago ,when i was rocked by a lorry!"

Or the Tyson-Frazier fight. After it the Referee Joe Cortez said that he has never been seen a fighter , who hits as hard as tyson!!!

Before the first fight with Marciano Ezzard Charles said something that I think will clarify why some guys (who fought both) will say fighter A hit harder than fighter B while others will disagree. Charles acknowledged Marciano's power but questioned how sharp he could possibly be having not fought in some time. What is the poiint of being a big puncher, he said, if you aren't sharp? (therein may lie the answer to the question of why Marciano went from a one punch hitter to a swarmer, Brockton)

DB: Who was the hardest puncher you ever faced?

KEN NORTON: It would have to be either George Foreman or Earnie Shavers.

gotti: whats good rock? i've been a rock supporter for a minute....who was the hardest puncher you ever faced and who was the weakest you ever faced?

HASIM RAHMAN: I can't remember some of the weakest punchers. I would say the hardest puncher was Lennox followed by Corrie Sanders.

Who was the hardest puncher you ever faced?

SUGAR RAY LEONARD: Hardest puncher…Tommy Hearns. He hit like a sledgehammer–pistons. And Roberto Duran. Duran with his manos de piedras, hands of stone. Tommy Hearns, with that leverage, the six–foot–two height advantage…awesome.

BH: You have fought some big punchers in your time and have taken some tremendous shots. Out of all the fighters you have faced which three would you say hit the hardest?

RAY MERCER: Bert Cooper by far, whooooo, could he hit, Tommy hit pretty hard as well, there was a fighter that I fought his name was Leo Loiacono (a big Italian white boy) he hit real hard as well.

No offence but from a scientific/Thermodynamic point of view this equation just doesn't make any sense.
Its not an equation its common sense , noise made by force = impact on force= level of power , mass being applied etc . For example if i was to hit a bell and made a loud noise and if someone else was to hit a bell and it made a louder noise who do you think would of hit it harder ? .
Sorry but your equation and argument is flawed. The transfere of energy just doen't quite work like that. It's not that simple.

noise made by force = impact on force= level of power

Ask anyone who has studied Thermodynamics or a simular subject like I have to Degree level and I am sure they will agree with me that your above statement is flawed. (Not trying to sound arrogant here :TU: )

okay genius whats the equation for measuring punching power ? . Boxing expert sugar ray leonard said that tyson was the hardest hitter in the heavyweight division , he said that if you want to compare tysons punching power to the hardest hitters in the division just listen to the sound of his punches, he said that tyson punches make more noise therefore tyson hits harder than anyone in the division .

I never said I was a genius, I even went out of my way to stress I was not trying to be arrogant with you. I was trying to strongly disagree with your theory on punching power/noise whilst remaining polite.

But if you can't be the same maybe we should just leave this alone.

For what it's worth I would rate Tyson easily in my top ten Heavyweight punchers, but NOT because of the 'noise' his punches made.

I to for the record remember Leonards comment on this subject. Going from memory he said "Tysons punches even sound different from other Heavyweights". Like I said just going from memory,

Easily proven. For example.... I make more noise than anyone here, yet have no power whatsoever.

It is now a proveable scientific fact.

..have i misread the title of this thread? (rhyme not intended) I thought it was about who said whom hit him the hardest.....not who WE think hit harder than someone...not about bells ringing or padding on phone books or whose punches SOUNDED hardest....(much of whoch would depend on microphone placement or technical quality).

well...to add to add to the discourse and be just as relevant....willie pep is considered to be much shorter than primo carnera..although i don't know of anyone who has seen them standing together.

I can't understand this argument? If you are knocked out it makes sense to say that the person who knocked you out is the hardest puncher you've faced. Its a good excuse as to why you lost by knockout.

Holmes rates Tysons power but thinks Shavers was harder, hardly surprising seeming most fighters thought Shavers hit them the hardest.

I don't agree. If you clap your hands together you can make a loud noise but if you punch your hand it wont make as much noise. The punch would hurt more than the slap so the amount of noise is irrelevant.

Hey Shyguy, below is an example of something very loud that really can't hurt you that much, followed by something that is really loud that can hurt you very much. I Hope this helps.
