New Carl Froch interview
Re: New Carl Froch interview
This thread simply illustrates how well this fight has been promoted and made into something it's not. It's like Harrison v haye, Harrison was championed in the build up, same here with groves. Will we all 'love' Carl again once he demolishes groves?
I suspect 'we' will. Typical of the British sports fan right here and as I say brilliant promotion. This notion that froch is a dick and groves has won the build up is nonsensical

Calzaghe wouldve whipped him. Froch's best win was against an aging Kessler, and even that was hard work.

Re: New Carl Froch interview
Yes, Froch is being a little arrogant, but so what - at least he's done the business where it counts, in the ring. Groves is swaggering around like a tit without having achieved anything of note.
As said by others, Froch isn't a media celeb, he's a boxer - I couldn't really give a toss about what he's like outside the ring - what I do care about, is that very rarely have I been bored watching him fight, the only fight that was a real snooze was against Dirrell, and to be fair, Dirrell didn't exactly come to have a tear up.
Froch will be remembered fondly when he's gone, he's taken on all comers, lost a couple against very very good fighters, and done it all the hard way, with no short cuts - we need more fighters like Froch in this country, and in general, people prepared to take risks and build their reputation through fights, not marketing and PR.

Re: New Carl Froch interview
Yeah that's most what I respect and like about Froch. He's been willing to fight absolutely everyone and hasnt padded his record like a lot of british fighters have over the years. Even if you dont like him as a person, as a true boxing fan you should like him for that! If Groves wins tonight what's the likelihood that he'll be willing to fight the consistent calibre of opposition like Froch has?! Very little i'd say.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yes, Froch is being a little arrogant, but so what - at least he's done the business where it counts, in the ring. Re: New Carl Froch interview
IMO Froch is the no1 boxer to come from Britain in all time standings,im not seeing he,s the best technically or would beat some of the other greats(Calzaghe for instance would beat him i reckon) but its hard obviously to compare fighters from different weight divisions let alone eras,so the way i would break it down is to compare the stature of fighters they have faced throughout their respective careers and as much as i respect Calzaghe,Hatton,Naz,Conteh,Lewis,Buchanan,Wilde etc,Froch,s resume already surpasses then IMO
Re: New Carl Froch interview
Froch has done well but in my eyes he isn't even top 5.. He has never been the best in his actual division. So in honesty he's never actually been best in the works. Whereas Calzaghe was best at 2 weights.. Haye best at Cruiserweight... Naz was best then you have Hatton and Lewis. These are ones off the top of my head. I think Carl blows his own trumpet a hell of a lot. Calzaghe is by far the best British boxer of my generation.. Froch will get found out tonight in my opinion.handsofstone wrote:IMO Froch is the no1 boxer to come from Britain in all time standings,im not seeing he,s the best technically or would beat some of the other greats(Calzaghe for instance would beat him i reckon) but its hard obviously to compare fighters from different weight divisions let alone eras,so the way i would break it down is to compare the stature of fighters they have faced throughout their respective careers and as much as i respect Calzaghe,Hatton,Naz,Conteh,Lewis,Buchanan,Wilde etc,Froch,s resume already surpasses then IMO

Couldn't agree more. I can't believe that people think Carl is somehow scared of / threatened by Groves. I think Groves' talk will bite him on the arse, this is a fight that Carl could have had some difficulty getting up for, no chance of that now.jamesmcdonnell wrote:Yes, Froch is being a little arrogant, but so what - at least he's done the business where it counts, in the ring. As for being 'up himself' isn't it part of the package? Naz, Eubank, Ricky 'bloke next door but refers to himself in the 3rd person' Hatton, Joe Calzaghe…..
Re: New Carl Froch interview
Hmm it's all subjective mate. Who did Calzaghe beat at 168 that Froch already hasnt beaten or wouldnt of beaten?! Calzaghe was lucky that Ward wasnt about when he was at the top of his game. Even in the Hopkins fights there's arguments to whether Calzaghe deserved the decision.daviddee wrote:Froch has done well but in my eyes he isn't even top 5.. Re: New Carl Froch interview
Carl is good but calzaghe was better. Joe was tough an old boots and very quick and fluid as well as aggressive. Carls style would have suited joe. Froch would have been outworked and wrong footed and beaten up round after round. Im a fan...but no way froch would have beaten joe.columbo wrote:Hmm it's all subjective mate. Ah no I agree with that! I just meant in terms of who they beat so to speak.

or maybe we had a match up between two genuinely world level british fighters
all very well saying that in hindsight i suppose.
but it is just as easy saying its a hype job before a punch is thrown.
not often people are pulled on it eh?

Carl is that you?
Haha!
Great fighter and I've got total respect for the guy, hopefully the rematch (if happens) he can show a bit more respect for Groves when all the dust has settled.
