Underrated. That's a tough one, got to think about it. Sammy Mandell might be my first pick.

Your rump swabbing will get you nowhere Il Duce,
Step outside the parameters of the rules, and you will be dealt with in a stern and perhaps vile manner.
Triangulation? In this case duely noted.and found to be ...both dysfunctional AND hinting of chick flickery.
However....I appreciate the nod on accuracy, I have learned you can't bull shit the bullshitters, and genuine "source-ery" combined with fact checking and then double checking is typically the coin of the realm Klompton has turned out to be a good example. As has barry. At least I think barry is the same barry who created the history book which is a bit of a treasure.

I agree with some of these. If you try to start a thread with these guys you probably won't get many replies. There are some any very good/great fighters that get very little attention; usually they fought a while ago, were not heavyweights. recently someone start a thread about Young Stribling, who was a very interesting boxer, and it gets one reply.
Overrated- Vitali Klitschko. Really, he is a current fighter and should not be discussed on Boxers of the Past. However, he gets snuck in time and time again. Some people know that isn't that good, but too many people seem to think that somehow he is.
There are a few ATG's who rarely get any sort of criticism and people will freak out if you say anything bad at all.

Are you going by the computer ratings? Those are just for our amusement; not to be taken seriously.

I assumed that was the question since it was "the most overrated/underrated on boxec"Ambling Alp II wrote:Are you going by the computer ratings? Those are just for our amusement; not to be taken seriously.

[quote="Il Duce"]Dr Buzz,
Please don't confuse me with listing you as 'Underrated', as with you being the 'best'.
That would be a far cry of epic proportions.
You are good in 'witty repsonses'.
Let's leave it at that.........

Not to worry, I don't get confused.]

* Lacks both quality and substance.
* Many of his comments are of few words.
* Does not have a good lead in line, and limited counter-punching technique.
* Has shown 'no' ability to take it.
Underrated > Box Buzz, always a 'witty' response.
* Ability to throw a quit-witted response.
* Fast on his feet.
* Sneaky quick, and very accurate.
* Ability to take a 'solid' punch.

I'd agree with that mate. People make Witherpsoon out to be something he's not.Ezzard wrote:Over: 1980s HWs

Interesting. I have been watching a lot of Witherspoon lately.....last night watched his fights with Eklund, Sims and Truth Williams and although I have to take into consideration he is a few years past his best I still didnt see too much of anything special. His hand speed was poor, conditioning average. He was very adept in the old school nuances of boxing though. A little like James Toney in that respect....keithmoonhangover wrote:I'd agree with that mate. People make Witherpsoon out to be something he's not.Ezzard wrote:Over: 1980s HWs

The punch he caught Eklund was a peach mind..Just seemed liked an unfulfilled potential..
Re: who is most overrated on boxrec, who most underrated?
Witherspoon was quality. Could catch an opponent's jab all night long. Had great accuracy. Good chin. Good defence. But he had a lot of mediocre performances too. Poor against Pinklon. Sparked by Smith in 1 round. Did just enough to win most of the time.
I rate him highly but he does get the benefit of the doubt too often.
I didn't really have him in mind though...
The 1980s was a great time for boxing, just not for HWs. Any minute now somebody will post that Tony Tubbs would have beaten both Klits on the same night.

Spoon was inconsistent as hell, at his best he was a handful for any Heavyweight in history. He took a dive against Smith to get away from King. Not a dive in a sense that he was paid, but a fornicate this dive.

I agree with what you've said. Poor Bonecrusher, never has anyone been given so little credit for winning a world title by first round stoppage.SaadOffTheDeck wrote:Spoon was inconsistent as hell, at his best he was a handful for any Heavyweight in history.
